The Battle for Your Mind
Did you know that you are in a war? If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior you are. When you realize you are in a battle first you need to know who you are fighting against. Our enemy is the devil who Jesus says in John 10: 10 has come to steal, kill and destroy. As a child of God we are in a daily battle for our minds.
In Ephesians 6: 12 Paul tells us “we do not fight against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.”
Because we are in a daily war for our minds we cannot take a day off. Whether we want to be at war or not the enemy never takes a moment off and when we do try to take a day off then we end up losing the very ground that has already been given to us. The enemy then will set up camp in our mind and fortify his position which if not immediately dealt with and repented from will become a stronghold. So then we have to fight twice as hard to get that ground back.
However, our Heavenly Father has already given us everything we need to succeed in the battle. He has given us the armor of God, Ephesians 6: 10-18, and He tells us in His Word that our weapons are not of the flesh but are divine and can demolish the strongholds of the devil. 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5. The Word says we must take every thought captive unto the obedience of Christ.
I have a previous pastor who said “you can’t stop the birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.”
The enemy will use anything he can to set up camp in our mind. He will use fear, worry, lust, unforgiveness and many other things to entice you to dwell on and once you choose to dwell on those things it is the beginning of his fortress in your mind. The mind controls our actions which then becomes our habits and then develops into our character. God wants us to live in victory and obedience to Him.
Once we realize we have thought, said or done something displeasing to God we must repent and turn from those thoughts and actions. We have been given the Holy Spirit to empower us to stand firm and be obedient to Christ. Let’s ask Him to be our strength each day to fight the good fight and live for Jesus.
