New Adventure

I am always up for a new adventure.  I thrive on learning new things and visiting new places but I soon found that not only was the Lord leading me into this new ministry opportunity but part of the journey included writing a Bible study and book.  This particular task stretched me more than I ever imagined and it would take many years to complete. Thus began my new adventure of writing FAITH Joseph’s Story.  This would prove to be the most time consuming thing I have ever done.

Writing a book was never on my “to do” list.  I never considered writing my gift but evidently the Lord saw fit to move me in this direction of sharing in print and digital format.  Before this, the most writing I had ever done involved school work and lessons plans.

But new adventures that push me out of my comfort zone seem to be what the Lord enjoys doing with me.  He designed me to be task/project oriented and I do best by throwing myself into a project.  This particular task proved to be a long one that found me working for over 4 years to complete.

To those of you who write-I have a new found respect for your hard work and dedication as you research, write, edit, re-write, edit and re-write again and again.

The writing process began years ago while teaching Sunday School.  As we studied different men and women of the Bible, I was lead to write short stories written in first person with each one telling their own story of faith.  I never expected for this to culminate into a published book I could hold in my hand.

Often the Lord will lead you through steps along the way to teach you His plan and purpose and give you insight into the lives and feelings of the people you choose to include in your story.  God had prepared me to write the story of Joseph by giving me compassion for Joseph through my own life experiences.  I have heard that authors write best by writing what they know. It seems that experience is the best teacher.

As I wrote about Joseph, Jacob’s son, I began to see a parallel between Joseph’s life and some of the events of my own life.  No, my siblings never tried to kill me or throw me into a pit but when it came to losing the communication ability to talk with my Mother with Alzheimer or being accused of something I did not do or learning new things that would enable me to perform the task God had for me, I was there.

Studying Joseph’s story drew me to examine my own story.  I began to see a pattern.  I remembered events in my life; those times of discontent that pushed me forward with new challenges; those times of grief that seemed to have no meaning or the joy of the next step along the journey when unexpected opportunities came my way. I was excited to see that in every step the Lord lead me to this current stage of life and My Journey Of Faith Ministries.

A reminder of God’s plan for Joseph comes from Genesis 50 as Joseph tells his brothers the following:

Genesis 50: 19-20  But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?  You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

Joseph’s life had been planned by God for the purpose of bringing Jacob and his family down to Egypt where they would grow to become a nation called Israel. This trip was a fulfillment of the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis 15: 13-14 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.”

Examine your own life. You may think your life will never save the life of others but your witness to a life saved by Jesus might very well be exactly what it takes for someone to be saved from an eternity in hell.  And regardless of where you are at the present moment or the situation you find yourself, look and see how God might be directing your path. If you can’t see it now, don’t worry, because He doesn’t always reveal the plan to you while you are in preparation.  But He will reveal it to you when the time is right either in this life or the next. He is working in your life for His purpose according to His plan.

Part of our mission at My Journey of Faith Ministries is teaching and guiding women to write and tell their own faith story.  We offer this to you through Encourage Retreat and workshops or on a personal basis by contacting us through ministry@myjourneyoffaith.com. Take some time to examine your life story.  You might be surprised to see where God has been teaching you and growing your faith for His purpose in accordance with His plan for your life.

Father, help me to complete the task You have laid before me.  If it is Your will to put together a book or Bible Study about faith-guide me and help me complete that task in obedience to You.  Stories of Faith-is that the title You choose? I want only to please You.  Your men and women of faith have such wonderful stories to share with those of us, who are struggling with life today and although the times are different the basics of human behavior remains the same.  What marvelous lessons we can learn from them! Faith grows from trusting-from obedience-from learning about Your provisions stated in Your Holy Word-by Listening to the still small voice within us.
