Running On Empty

Running on Empty

Have you ever felt like you were running on empty? Sometimes we get so caught up in life and all the demands for our attention that we find ourselves going through the motions and becoming depleted physically, emotionally and spiritually. Jesus tells us the cure for this in

Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Sometimes when we are weary we want to withdraw and be by ourselves, however, we need to stay connected to God first and our Christian friends and family. Most of us have cellphones now and we know when the battery is low it must be plugged into the power source to recharge. Just like we need to plug into our Power Source – the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. If we go days without charging our phones they can’t be used properly. If we go days without reading the Word and praying we won’t be used like we are intended to be used either. We must plug in daily as it says in

Romans 12: 2 “And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

We must feed ourselves spiritually every day from the Word just as we feed ourselves meals daily for our bodies.  Most of us don’t go many days without eating so we should also prioritize feeding ourselves spiritually.  Let’s remember when we feel empty it is our choice to stay disconnected and low in battery or to connect ourselves with God and allow Him to give us rest and refreshment so we can be used to spread His love to those who don’t know Him.
