Some Suffering Results from Ignorance and Wrong Choices

Why Me, Lord?…Some Suffering Results from Ignorance and Wrong Choices

MJOF-Devotions

Almost 100 years ago we were unaware that sunlight was harmful to our skin; therefore, many days we girls worked in the fields long hours without wearing sunscreen, big brim hats, and long sleeves on our arms. Now many years later I am coping with skin cancers on my face, left hand, arm, and leg. I have not determined why my left arm, hand, and leg have suffered and thus far not my right ones, but evidently my left side was exposed to more hot sunshine than my right side. At the time of this writing, I am scheduled to have a skin cancer removed from the top of my left hand and dread the procedure.

Also during my earlier life, many men and a few women smoked cigarettes; although they knew smoking was a ‘bad habit’, they did not know the serious results of COPD, emphysema, and lung cancer. Indiscretion in eating habits, use of alcohol, and illicit sex and drugs also cause much suffering. Many Christians who wouldn’t consider smoking a cigarette, or consuming one drink of alcoholic beverage, are intemperate in their eating habits, and this is sin also: for the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

In 1 Corinthians [3:17], Paul wrote: “Don’t you know you are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit is living in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is sacred and you are that temple.”

Then in Ephesians [4:30] Paul wrote, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

Therefore, any lifestyle that grieves the Holy Spirit, should be confessed to God and put aside.
But after forgiven we may suffer the consequences done to our bodies. During my younger life, if I had maintained my current weight, Perhaps I would not suffer from some of my limitations. God promises to forgive our confessed sins, but he doesn’t promise to remove all the consequence.

Father, You have forgiven me for not taking better care of my body, but I am suffering some consequences. Much was done in ignorance; still I am suffering due to my lack of knowledge. If I had known better and willfully sinned; the consequences would be more severe. I thank You for Your mercy and pray in Jesus’ Name.
