He Hears

It has been one of those weeks. Sometimes I have felt as if I could hardly breathe. I have been weepy and my emotions are raw. Usually when I feel this way it is because I am tired from lack of sleep or exhausted from traveling or even tired from doing “good” things that I know are worthwhile. Sometimes I feel something else is going on. It involves the spiritual realm; I know God is up to something involving me in some way especially if I am being obedient to God’s leading. A spiritual battle is raging and I feel …

The Empty Tomb

The Empty Tomb

Matthew 28: 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.         Imagine with me if you will. In the tomb so quiet and still, The body of my Savior lay Dead and cold and sullen gray Man had crucified God’s precious Son. Beaten-scourged this very one, Who came to save the soul of man. Now sacrificed by God’s own plan. The wrath of God that day was stilled. Jesus sinless blood was spilled. The penalty for my sin was paid. Now in the tomb His …

By the Way of the Cross

By the Way of the Cross

Isaiah 53: 4-5,12  “Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering…But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities…He poured out His life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” My name you do not know.  Throughout history, I have only been known as the thief on the cross.  My name is not important.  My story is.  My life began about 2000 years ago.  I was born into a respectable Jewish family.  We attended the synagogue and celebrated all the …

Barabbas

Barabbas

Read Matthew 27: 11-23 Barabbas was filled with hatred.  He hated the Romans with a passion.  They had conquered Israel and were ruling over them with an iron fist.  He was a zealot and had joined this group of like-minded men for the sole purpose of violence and insurrection against the government.  He had killed many Romans and would kill more if he had the chance. At this moment, Barabbas stood on one side of Governor Pilate next to his judgment seat overlooking a large crowd in judgment hall.  He was not alone on the platform.  On the other side …

The Blood Sacrifice

The Blood Sacrifice

John 1: 29  “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” The Old Testament gives vivid, detailed instructions about the offering of a sacrifice in atonement for sin.  Since Jesus was the sacrifice for your sins and mine, we do not offer blood sacrifices on this side of the cross.  And because our culture is so different from God’s people in the Old Testament, we often do not fully understand the significance of its meaning. Because sin had entered the world through Adam and Eve, man could no longer come into the presences of Holy …

The Love of Jesus

The Love of Jesus

John 3: 16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God’s *“hesed” sent Jesus to the cross so we might have eternal life. John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” God’s *“hesed” brought us Jesus-God in the flesh. Jesus (the Word) was with the Father and the …

God’s Hesed

God’s Hesed

I read a book several years ago  A Sacred Sorrow by Michael Card.  As a result, I learned a new word.  That word was “hesed”.  This Hebrew word describes the indescribable undefinable characteristics of God. It can not be translated into English using just one word. Our English language defines “hesed” as loving-kindness.  But it encompasses so much more.  I suppose it would take a vast number of words to fully describe the true meaning of God’s “hesed” and even then mere words could not completely satisfy the definition.Perhaps the best way to explain “hesed” is to say it is …

In the Morning Light

In the Morning Light

Luke 24:5-8 “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:  ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’  Then they remembered His words.”   In the stillness of early morning just before dawn, the whole earth seemed to wait in anticipation for the grand entrance of the sun. Darkness gave way to a rising sun displaying God’s handiwork in shades of pinks, blues …

The Aroma of Christ

The Aroma of Christ

2 Corinthians 2: 14-16 “But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life…” I am told by someone who has raised sheep that when a lamb is born, the fragrance of birth gives off a sweet aroma unlike any other animal birth.  …

The Voice of the Shepherd

The Voice of the Shepherd

John 10: 4 “When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”    Jesus used sheep as illustrations to teach many lessons in the New Testament.  Because of the culture of the day, the people of Israel would have caught the lessons immediately.  I, on the other hand, have never been around sheep to learn their characteristics, so what I know of them is not through experience but through reading, studying or listening to teaching about the subject. Recently, during a Bible Study by Anne …

The Lamb Was Silent

The Lamb Was Silent

I watched in amazement at how still the sheep had become during a shearing demonstration in Australia.  The sheep sat silent and still as the owner of the ranch talked about sheep and the shearing process. He continued to talk for several minutes explaining what was about to happen as the wool was removed from the sheep.  The animal at his feet did not make a single movement or a single sound. Then in the shearing area, an experienced shearer very carefully and deliberately began removing the wool from the silent sheep. As the shearing proceeded, the sheep made not a sound and …

The Precious Lamb of God

The Precious Lamb of God

John 1: 29 “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” The Old Testament gives vivid detailed instructions about the offering of a sacrifice in atonement for sin.  Since Jesus was our sacrifice for sin, we do not offer blood sacrifices on this side of the cross and because our culture is so different, we often do not fully understand the significance of the meaning of a sacrifice for sins. Because sin had entered the world through Adam and Eve, God’s plan provided a way for man to come back into the presence of Holy …
