His Presence in Darkness

His Presence in Darkness

As a child my family took a vacation to the mountains of Tennessee. We enjoyed the trip as our family was together and searching out new places we had never been. One such place was a cave to explore. It was well lite and we could see the spectacular formations of stalagmites and stalactites. Each rock formation was uniquely different and beautiful. The rocks formed caverns with sharp drops to the next level. We were assured that we were protected by a tour guide who watched over us to lead the way and a rope fence to keep us …

Look But Do Not See

Look But Do Not See

Sometimes my husband will go to the kitchen cabinet looking to locate something he needs. Often he will stand and stare at each shelf searching with his eyes to find the needed item. Then in final desperation he calls for me to come and help. More often than not, the desired item can be found at eye level right in front of his eyes. It is as if he is surrounded in total darkness with eyes closed. I will also admit that there have been times when this same thing happens to me. I search and search and then suddenly …

Shades

Shades

I am the world’s worst at losing my sunglasses/shades. I only buy cheap sunglasses now because I know that before long they will be lost. Their purpose is to hide the brightness of the sun and to make vision clearer. My eyes are sensitive to light and if I don’t wear them I can’t see well. Losing focus can cause me problems, especially when driving. Perhaps you can relate to me concerning the shades. The sun sometimes seems so bright you either squint your eyes very tight, close your eyes completely or fumble into your purse for your shades. None …

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

When I was a child one of my favorite games to play was pin the tail on the donkey. Being blindfolded you would spin around and around until you lost direction of where the donkey chart was located. Try as you might, without sight and being a little dizzy it was almost impossible to pin the tail on the back end of the donkey (unless you somehow had a sliver of vision somewhere behind the blindfold). I have been known to miss the donkey all together and pin the paper tail on the wall or chair or door facing. Sometimes …

Light Under A Basket

Light Under A Basket

Matthew 5:15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lamp stand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. I learned a song as a child that I still remember to this day. “This Little Light of Mine”.  You probably know this song too.  It speaks a very simple truth.  A light will not shine so others can see when its hidden away. This song also holds the truth of the following passage: Luke 8:16  “No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a basket or puts it …

Reflecting the Light

Reflecting the Light

Looking out of the window at the bay has been my favorite view early mornings in Florida. I love watching the morning activity of birds and fish as they do what they do. On one particular morning, I saw two white objects on the water near the large yacht by the dock. Thinking the objects were large white birds on the water, I grabbed my binoculars to get a better view. What I saw surprised me. Instead of birds, it was a bright light on the surface of the water. Was there a submarine under the water or perhaps a …

New Adventure

New Adventure

I am always up for a new adventure.  I thrive on learning new things and visiting new places but I soon found that not only was the Lord leading me into this new ministry opportunity but part of the journey included writing a Bible study and book.  This particular task stretched me more than I ever imagined and it would take many years to complete. Thus began my new adventure of writing FAITH Joseph’s Story.  This would prove to be the most time consuming thing I have ever done. Writing a book was never on my “to do” list.  I …

A New Direction

A New Direction

Retirement was an adjustment.  My husband was retired from public life but had a growing business he could operate from home.  He was not used to “a now at home all day wife” and I was not used to a husband that hung around all the time.  But that is a story for another day.  Somehow, however, we managed to carve out the togetherness factor and do what was needed to be together and still stay out of each others way. The one thing that seemed to be a constant theme for weeks was a statement for my heart and …

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

Jeremiah 29: 11 “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” I love the challenge of starting something new. I have a creative side so no matter if it’s a new project, a new phase in life, a new thought with potential or a challenge when someone says I can’t do it because it’s impossible, I’m up for it. Little did I know that God would use this personality trait for one of the hardest challenges …

New Insight

New Insight

Funny how finding an old journal written years ago brings back memories almost forgotten. Times of struggles and trials that brought me to where I am now were written down.  Journaling has been my habit over the years and has given encouragement to me through each step along the journey.  Why?  This was something I did for myself and God used journal writing to draw my soul and spirit closer to Himself. Someone once said “you can’t see the forest for the trees” meaning you only focus on one tree seeing only what is in front of you instead …

Darkness

Darkness

Darkness   Have you ever been totally in the dark…I mean in a room or outside when there was no light shining or no glow from the moon and the stars? The darkness so dark you could literally not see your hand in front of your face? Have you ever felt the blackness of the dark night enveloping you until you felt totally helpless and alone and maybe even afraid? The definition of darkness has several meanings. Commonly its definition simply means a partial or total absence of light. A second definition describes darkness as meaning: wickedness or evil-as …

Let There Be Light

Let There Be Light

Let There Be Light   Genesis 1: 1-5 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the water.   God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light “day,” and He called the darkness “night.” Evening came and then morning: the first day. God, our Creator, was in existence before time was clocked by night and day. He created …
