DAY FIVE:
Depression lives in isolation. It grows in the darkness. We must remember that we are not just joint heirs with Christ. We are joint heirs with one another. Ephesians 4 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” We work together. We mourn together. We weep together. We rejoice together. We walk alongside one another. We encourage one another. We lift one another up.
As Christians, we are a light to the world. We are a light to one another. When that darkness comes, we cannot hide our light under a basket. When the darkness comes to a friend, shine your light brighter. Point them to the glory of our Father. When darkness comes to us, seek the light even if it is a silent light. We may not be prepared to share the thoughts in our heads or the feelings in our hearts, but we cannot batten down the hatches and wallow in darkness. There may be days when all we can do is sit quietly near the light. That is okay, but remember that a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
We were created to live in relationship. We were created to live in relationship with Him and to live in relationship with one another. Seek God. Seek godly counsel. Let’s bask in the Light and allow our light to shine for others as theirs shines for us.
