Beautiful Spring

All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

“Beautiful Things” -Gungor

Springtime is such a precious time to me.  I look around me and see brittle grass and dry brown leaves as they are changing into bright green. Flower buds are forming and blooming, new life is springing up everywhere… maybe that’s why they call it Spring? In all transparency, I am in serious need of warmth and blooms. After this season of winter in my life, both figuratively and spiritually, I am left brittle, colorless and a little deadened. All of this is not hidden to God. He sees my limp hands as I feebly raise them up in worship- tired from all of the effort of survival through the winter of life. He hears my prayers, muffled from the layers of protection I’ve accumulated from this season of cold. I don’t know about you, but I need a little beauty in my colorless, brittle world.

Then, in His love, He sees me and He makes me beautiful. He specializes in it. He takes my life- dry, ugly, dead- and he creates in it a new Spring. The hope of purpose and use blooms love and desire and joy. He restores color to the brown hidden places of my heart. He brings new life to my words of praise and prayer. He makes all things new… and beautiful. So often we feel like dust… like we are something God wants to shake off of His hands in order to move on to something less, well, dirty. But in His hands, rather than shaking off our dust, He turns it into mold-able clay that He shapes into a new and beautiful creation.

He restores our soul, He renews our purpose, He rebuilds our trust and heals our broken or hardened hearts. He brings Spring into our Winter. That is what He can do…. He makes beautiful things. Do you need to be shaped, colored, renewed by the hands of your Father? He is there for you always, ready to bring you the warm new beginning of a spiritual Spring.

Maybe you need a reminder that you are not who you once were, that you are free from shame in the grace of Christ.   Are you wilting like a dying flower from the desperate need for living water?  Maybe you need a new perspective on life and Jesus,  maybe you simply need a reminder that it is okay to go to God for renewal and restoration when you are run down and feel neglected. Spring is a season to open the windows, breath the air, and let in the sunshine. Let us experience the beauty of Spring’s renewal together.
