Calm

For thus said the Lord God,
the Holy One of Israel:
By waiting and by calm you shall be saved,
in quiet and in trust shall be your strength.

Isaiah 30:15 NAB

Calm

37 A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. 38 Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”  41 They were overwhelmed by fear and said to one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and sea obey him! Mark 4:35-41 NAB.

We are probably familiar with this passage where Jesus calms the storm. Jesus tells the disciples and us to be calm. He is asking for a claim that is interior. It is not dependent on our circumstances. Calm is knowing that Jesus is right there with us even amidst life’s storms.
