Detours Don’t Deter

When I went into town a couple of days ago there was a sign up that said Highway 51 closed to through traffic. I assumed it was out past the bridge. Later when I drove down Pine Street, I was surprised that it was in the middle of town that the street was closed and detour signs were posted.

When detours in life come our way we can be very surprised. We assume it won’t happen where we are, but a detour is better than an accident. We have to heed the signs and follow God no matter what.

Oh beloved, some detours are simply pothole repairs. Others are where the road’s structured is completely compromised. Danger lurks in the area and we have to go in another direction. Life is much like this. You have enjoyed your life and it has been stable, secure and consistent. Now you’re dealing with a detour. It may be a simple reroute, it may be a disaster you have encountered.

God wants you to know today that nothing you encounter has been missed by Him. He goes before you everywhere. He doesn’t cause all disasters, but He is the God who will lead you through the trouble. Bad things happen. It’s a fallen world. But godly people don’t have to lose their courage in the troubles they encounter. You might not want to go through the detour, but you haven’t got a choice. To remain fixed on the problem will bring you disappointment, discouragement, depression and more. Keep moving. Keep going forward with the Lord. He doesn’t promise to give you all the why’s and details of any situation in life, but when you get to heaven you will know things beyond a shadow of a doubt – AND it will no longer matter. If heaven isn’t full of worry, fear, anxiety, hopelessness and distress then those are not for you now. You aren’t a product of the things of life that look so very bad, you are the creation of the Lord – created to be full of joy in the journey!

God loves you and He’s for you. Think about it. If this is so then a detour is simply that – a short diversion and alternate route in your life. Just focus on the Lord, praise Him for carrying you through, give Him what you cannot understand and live in the Light of His tender loving care!

Isaiah 26: 12  “LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.”

Psalm 29: 11  “The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.”

1 Corinthians 1: 8  “He will sustain you to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ”
