“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created He Him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27
Before I had a initial revelation of who I was, there was some days that I would look in the mirror and see some real ugliness. I had a hard time comprehending being made in the image and likeness of God. Why did I see ugliness when God said I was made fearfully and wonderfully?
And that’s when it occurred to me.
I was not looking through eyes of faith. I had to invite God into my heart again to look through His eyes of love. Looking through the lens of my flesh caused me to see every imperfection and flaw and past sins and hurt, all of which I had released to Jesus when I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior.
Now, not only do I see myself through God’s eyes, but I can now see others through eyes of love–God’s perfect, accepting, and unconditional love!
We were created in the image of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God used Himself as the template for creating us! What an honor to be created in the image of the King! In this image, there is a boldness in the Spirit. We aren’t arrogant or prideful simply because our confidence is balanced by the Holy Spirit working in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. (Phil 2:13) And since we are made in the image of our Heavenly Father, we aren’t intimidated by the words, actions, deeds, standards, or behaviors of those around us.
We already ARE who we were created to BE!
When we know who we are, we know to whom we belong and at any given moment–we know why we are really here.
Because our true identity is found in our Creator, it is only when we press into His presence that we see our true selves.
In the process of becoming who we are, we shift our focus from ourselves and place our eyes on the Author and Finisher of our faith. The process of becoming requires faith with works, and the work is in the process of becoming who you were destined to BE!
Prayer Focus:
Father,
Thank you for creating me in your perfect image and likeness! Holy Spirit, I invite you into my heart today to help me see through my spiritual eyes of faith. Help me to cultivate a heart of love and to pursue the life that You created for me to live! Lord help me to grow in the knowledge of who I really am…in You. Reveal my true identity to me and to those around me so that I will continue to walk in paths of righteousness for Your names sake.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
