Do I Have Growth Responsibility

“…submit to god. resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

I was not saved until I was 17.  Needless to say, that was a long time ago. Over the years, I have learned as I grew in my faith. This verse is an example. I pretty much understood submission to God. I soon learned the devil never has my best interest at heart! So, I would pray for a submissive heart and ask God to keep the devil away from me. A few years ago, studying His word, a rich revelation seemed to clear my heart’s eyes to read what this verse really says!  Did you ever realize that we are each responsible for our obedience to God and that He sometimes calls upon us to

to follow his direction for our lives and not wait for God to program us like robots. It is not “make me submissive, Lord”.  It is a command. I must choose to be submissive.  It is not “keep satan from me, Lord”. I must command him to get away from me in Jesus’ name and choose to resist him. Then, after choosing submission and choosing resistance in Jesus’ name, then and only then, will satan flee from me.  That lesson was a needed one for me. I pray it helps you too.
