Do You Hear Those Wings?
Ever heard the sound of a hummingbird, as it flits in front of a flower, or a bird feeder? I have, and it’s amazing. In Ezekiel and John respectfully, God voice is described like “the sound of angel’s wings.”
Ezekiel 1:24,“When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings.”
Ezekiel 1:28, “Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.“
Ezekiel 10:5, “And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like the voice of Almighty God when He speaks.”
In these verses, the “seraphim” and cherubim” had wings covering their faces, chest, and feet. Pretty scary creatures, don’t you think? God’s voice is also described in terms, such as “the sound of many waters,” “thunder,” “the roar of the ocean.”
Recently, I spent some time just listening to the Twillome River, as it roared from Yosemite Falls. I could sit and listen to it for hours. It’s somewhat like the waves of the ocean. They are so peaceful, soothing. That is, except when they’re crashing into the rocks that jut out from the cliffs. To me, I feel very close to the Lord then. I marvel at His handiwork, and how blessed I am to enjoy it.
Think of Him the next time you hear a bird, or the ocean. It might just change your perspective.
Lord, thank You for Your wondrous creation. We marvel at its complexity, and are awed by its beauty and splendor. Keep us mindful that Your angels are all around us, and that someday, we’ll hear the multitudes of angels praising You in glory. We love You. In Your Precious Name we pray. Amen!
