When I get up in the morning I make a pot of coffee. It’s just one of the things we enjoy. Without coffee life can feel groggy. We are prepared. We have at least two large containers of the ground stuff, a great coffee pot and enough cups to let 30 or so people drink with us if we wanted. Along with the extras for coffee such as creamer and sweetener, we are ready to get the best out of our cup in the morning.  We make the coffee the way we like it. It’s become a part of our life and we enjoy it alone or together.
God meets us when we get up every morning. Although He watches over us even in the night, the early morning meeting with Him is the highlight of my day. He is prepared to meet with me because I have His Word at hand, His Spirit in my heart and I rely on the Savior to flavor life just right. We have great books of the faith and Bible study books all over the house. But really all we need is the Word of God. With coffee we might like an extra flavor or addition, but with the Word, it is complete all on its own.
Oh beloved, everything you need is found between the covers of the Word of God. It’s your sonnet of love when needed. It’s the flavor for a life gone flat.  It’s strong as you ever need, but one taste from the Word will cure all bitterness. The Word suits the taste of everyone, but it’s yours to personally enjoy. Imagine letting a commercial about coffee be your cup each morning. No, precious one, The Word is always available for you to savor all through the day. Because you are intimately acquainted with the Savior, you know the Word is alive. A very present help to take away the grogginess of life and to help you stand when your stamina is waning. When the cup of sorrow or rejection or pain comes your way, drink freely from the Word. Life changes when the Word enters the body. There’s a transformation and a waking up like nothing else can do. The more you taste and see God’s Word the more you will desire it. You may have tried other things – hobbies, work, self-motivation and more. But sooner or later you will come back to the Word that is alive and able to make all grace abound to you. This tasty gift is alive and necessary for you to come alive in the Spirit as well.
God loves you and He’s for you. That’s why He never chastises you no matter how often you drink of the Word. The cup of salvation is just the beginning. His Word will get you through, wake you up and change you. Rejoice in this wonderful gift that never runs out, never runs dry, never quits tasting wonderful to your heart and mind. Thank Him for the Word this morning as you drink it and live in the Light of His glory and grace.
