Faith: God-Given Visions

Read Genesis 37:5-11

God gave Joseph two prophetic dreams. They would comfort him in the years to come as he would wonder how these dreams would be fulfilled and then again as God moved to fulfill the promises of Joseph’s visions in his life. God used two dreams while he was living at home in Canaan to prepare his family and to speak to Joseph of the things to come.  Joseph saw the sheaves and the sun, moon and stars bow down to him.  As you can imagine, these dreams caused quite a stir when he told his brothers and his father. And when the brothers sold him into slavery, Joseph could not imagine how the dreams could possibly be fulfilled.

Later Joseph was given the power to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams resulting in his rise to a position of power in Egypt. It was at the moment he saw his brothers waiting to see the Vizier of Egypt in order to purchase grain during the famine, then bowing down before him that Joseph remembered his dreams. These dreams would become a reminder to Joseph and to his family of God’s divine hand on the life of His people.

It would also be a reminder to Joseph and his family that He would fulfill the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis 15:13-14 Then the Lord said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.”

Joseph believed God’s promise. He believed it so strongly that on his death bed, he made his family swear to take his body back to Canaan when the left Egypt.  This promise was fulfilled in Exodus 13:19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do this. He said, “God will certainly come to help you. When he does, you must take my bones with you from this place.”

God may not have given you a dream like Joseph’s vivid dreams or the ability to interpret them as He did to Joseph later in his life but you can rest assured that Jesus Himself has already given you a vision of what your life will become once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior. You have eternal life. Your eternal future is secure. Below are a few of the truths concerning your eternal life through Jesus Christ:

Eternal Life Through Jesus:
John 5:24Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
1 John 2:25And this is the promise that He made to us—eternal life.”

God not only gives you a vision of what is to come but He gives you assurance that it will be true and can not be taken from you.

Assurance and Grace that His Word is True:
John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
Romans 3:23-25 “ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.”

End Times: Jesus Is Coming Again
Matthew 24:29-30 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”
Philippians 2:9-11Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Revelation 21:22-27 “And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.  By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.  But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

Are you a follower of Jesus? Do you rest on His Word and the vision for your life?
Believe His promises-the vision of what your life will be as a believer in Jesus Christ, now and throughout eternity. Because Jesus lives—so do you!
