Scripture: There are six things the Lord hates; seven that are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that devises wicked plans; feet that haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6: 16-19.
This scripture isn’t referring to accidentally stumbling upon evil, but could be applied to gossip. This is an example: once some women were at a quilting bee, each confessed to certain flaws in her character, and one woman wastes no time in sharing these flaws with her friends. While able to attend prayer meetings, I remember that often during prayer requests, one made an unvoiced prayer request. That was done among believers, but if a request had been voiced to pray for the Smith’s who were getting a divorce or the Brown’s unmarried daughter who was pregnant, the news soon would be shared. It is too bad that believers can’t express spiritual and physical needs among fellow believers for fear their need will be shared with others and perhaps personal opinions being added.
Prayer thought: Heavenly Father, though many believers are not comfortable expressing their needs publically, it is a privilege to serve a heavenly Father who knows all our flaws and loves us for who we are, and not for what we do. We thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
