Generational Lying

Day by Day Devotions

Have you ever had someone speak a lie about you or over you?  I am sure we all have.  As well as we have most likely all spoken lies over others either accidentally (we didn’t know it was a lie) or on purpose.

As I was reading Genesis 26 about the famine, Isaac told the king that Rebekah was his sister and all I kept thinking was “sins of the father”.  You see Abraham had done that very same thing to the very same guy!!!  Then the king looked out the window and saw them caressing each other and said… why did you lie?  Someone could have slept with your wife!!

Then to go a bit further what did Isaac’s son do?  Jacob deceived, lied to him.  Passing on the sins of the father to next generation… Jacob’s sons lied to Jacob about Joseph. Tamar lied to Judah about who she was?  When will it end???

The other day as I was speaking with a friend of mine just back from an awesome women’s conference. She told me about generational curses and breaking those things that have been passed down to you and your family.  Then I reread the chapter and again thought wow generational curses… lying.

That very afternoon when I got home I learned that someone had spoken a lie about my oldest son.  I was very mad.  I wanted to go slap them down in Jesus name!!!  I had to cool down.  Yesterday morning, as I was speaking the Word…

Isaiah 54:17No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

I thought I need to speak that over my son.  Then God said… people talk about you whether you know it or not and they speak curses whether they know it or not, you need to counteract with blessings over your sons.  So I went in Austin’s bedroom and put my hand on his shoulder and spoke that verse and many others over him then I started praying….

Lord, I want Austin (and Drew) to be loyal like Jonathan, to have a heart like Yours like David, to be a friend of God like Abraham, to be meek and a good leader like Moses, to be blameless like Daniel, to be zealous for You like Paul and above all else, if they are like all these men but not like Jesus it doesn’t matter, so of all things I want them to be like JESUS!!!   I realized I need to SPEAK blessings over my sons.  To speak those things that are not as if they are… and these are things I want them to be!!!  I decided to incorporate this part in my prayers for them aloud every day for both of them.

Let me urge you to ask God to reveal those Generational Curses that have been passed down from generation to generation.  Some things you may not even think of in this light… such as worry, depression, anxiety, irresponsibility, lying, defeat, alcoholism, negativism, and many many others.  Ask God to show you those things to speak broken through the POWER and BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST.

That is the ONLY way to break these curses that are passed down.  Once you have claimed it, write it down and refer back to it.  When the devil brings up the past, say No that is under the blood and those chains are broken!!!!  Then be conscious of what we do speak over, about and to our children, nieces, nephews, any people you care about and really anybody you speak of at all.  There is DEATH and LIFE in the power of the tongue.  Please be conscious to speak blessings.  Speak the things we WANT to happen not the things we don’t.

I have a hard time with this but I am learning.  God points out to me and I listen much quicker now than I used to listen.
