God Be Near

Day by Day Devotions

“God be Near” Simply three little words
But O, the peace they bring
Just to know He’s right beside me,
And yesterday…today, and forever,
He’ll always be the same.

“The Lord is near to the brokenheartedPsalm 34:18a (NASV)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8a (KJV)

I was in a Grief Support meeting after my mom passed away.  Our pastor closed with this prayer: “God Be Near”  Three little words.  They really spoke to me because they said so much in such a simple way.

Sometimes we try to make things so complicated.  We don’t have to be a Bible Scholar to go to Him and make a request.  He just wants us to speak from the heart.

I want to share with you some scriptures that are near to my heart and have helped me through many difficult times in my life.

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him.”  Psalm 145:18 (NIV)

“The Lord is faithful to His promises”. Psalm 145:13b (NIV)

Some of those promises are…
Place your name in the blanks…

____, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5 (NIV)

____, “I will instruct and teach you the way you should go.” Psalm 32:9a (NIV)
____, “I will strengthen you and help you.” Isaiah 41:10a (NIV)

____, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.” Genesis 28:1 (NIV)

____, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8 (NIV)

He’s as close as the mention of His name.  Crawl up in His lap; let Him enfold you in His arms just as you would like your Daddy to do, and say to Him.  “Abba Father, (Daddy) Be near.”
