There are six things the Lord hates; seven that are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that devises wicked plans; feet that haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6: 16-19.
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but they that deal truthfully are His delight. Proverbs 12: 22.
Do you consider yourself a truthful person? I endeavor to be that kind of person, but when I read about the many ways that one can express dishonesty, I need to ask God’s forgiveness for that sin.
Since we think of honesty as telling the truth, what are some ways to lie without purposely telling a lie? Sometimes we can exaggerate the facts: I washed dozens of dirty socks, or I spent all day looking for my lost document.
We can also be dishonest by being hypocritical: pretending to be better than we really are. Or implying something is true when we are aware it is not true. Also we can withhold some evidence that might help another.
Heavenly Father, though I try to be an honest person, I realize in some ways I fail and ask Your forgiveness. I ask for grace to be honest no matter the results. In Jesus’ name. Amen
