God Wants Us Better not Bitter

Diamond in the Rough

Title of our devotions this week has been Why do bad things happen to good people? I believe one reason is because He wants us to become better people.

So at one hundred plus three months I’m endeavoring to become a little more like my Savior each day He allows me to live on this earth. As time is near to call me home, some would say relax and take life easy.

Being in the fiery furnace is uncomfortable sometimes, but my life might be compared to a gold nugget which requires some refining.  And though I was not fortunate to find a diamond in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, I know there are some rough edges on raw diamonds found and they need to be honed and then polished.

My life truly was a diamond in the rough, and even during old age additional shining is essential for my life to reflect that of my Savior. So no matter trials I face, I will not be bitter, but trust my Father to use my refining to make me better.

Zechariah 13: 9  “I will bring the one-third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’ ”

Heavenly Father, though the last several months while living as an evacuee have not been pleasant, I believe you are allowing them to help refine my life and make it more like that of Jesus. I thank you and pray in His name. Amen.
