Scripture: He crowns you with steadfast love and mercy. Psalm 103: 4
Many crowns are mentioned in the Bible:
Crown of Righteousness for those who serve the Lord and love His appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 8
Crown of Life: for those who patiently endure trials of life. James 1: 12
Crown of Glory: for those who faithfully serve God 1 Peter 5: 24
Crown of Rejoicing: to those who win souls, 1 Thessalonians 2: 19
Incorruptible Crown: for those who live lives of discipline and self-control 2 Corinthians 9: 25-27
But what does it mean to be crowned with steadfast love and mercy? We serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and we can trust Him because He is steadfast and reliable. When He punishes us for our sins, He continues to love us and through discipline wants to use it to help us become more like Jesus.
During the past several months, while living as an evacuee, after hurricanes Matthew and Irene blew water in the wall of my house causing mold, I have endured much, but know God loves me, and finally am living in my house. Though I know of no other houses in the area receiving damage, I know my house being on a corner lot was a prime target and am not bitter, but trust I will never endure this devastating incident again.
Prayer: You have allowed me to live a long life on earth, and my prayer is that on that final day when crowns are given, I will be worthy of some crown. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
