Hone Your Memory

Do you ever call your children by each other’s names? My mom did it with me often and I find myself even doing that with my grandchildren. Thankfully it’s not a memory loss issue, but I’m not sure what really causes that. I did read somewhere that it proves you love them equally or have no favorites if you do it. LOL

There is another kind of memory loss we can all experience. It’s spiritual in nature. It’s possible to be so wrapped up in troubles that we forget momentarily just what God has taught us. Sometimes we even forget to call on His name.

Oh beloved, God wants to remind you and me this morning that His Word and His Presence is our cure for memory loss. It’s in the learning His word and leaning on Him that we find our memories honed. We don’t wait until the trouble comes to find our answers. We learn our answers, learn His name, before the problems arise, so that we can remember who He is. Jehovah Jireh- our provider. Jehovah Nissi – the Lord our banner, Jehovah Shammah – the Lord is with me, Jehovah Shalom – the Lord is my peace, and more. Even though He has many different names, He is all in one. And as we remember to call upon our God, we have access to precious reminders of His love, care, faithfulness, presence and all the attributes of His nature.

God knows your life is busy. That’s why He is calling you to hone your memory. He knows what is behind you, what you’ve gone through. And it’s in calling upon Him that you will find healing for your past. He also knows what you are facing today. And as you fill your mind with His Word He will make the path clear for you and change your course from disaster to joy. He also knows your future. Oh how important it is for you to listen to Him today and rehearse His promises and call upon His name. You may not know why He has instructed you but you can be sure you will see the outcome in the future. What a blessing that you are His child by faith – you can trust Him and follow Him without faltering.

God loves you and He’s for you. This phrase is often lost in the memory when times are hard. But beloved believer, it is true for you – even if you forget God will not let you go. Run to Him this morning and ask Him for increased wisdom, clarity and strength. And then ask for Him to remind you often that you are His, that you are bought with a price and that you can call on Him always!

Psalm 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!

Psalm 119:55 I remember your name in the night, O Lord, and keep your law.

Colossians 3:1-2 Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Psalm 143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that You have done; I ponder the work of Your hands.
