Genesis 41: 56-57 “When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.”
During a famine in Israel, Jacob knew there was grain in Egypt and said to his sons, ”Why do you keep looking at each other? I’ve heard there is grain in Egypt. Go there and buy some grain for us so we can live and not die.” Genesis 42: 1
Without giving the many details, eventually Jacob’s son Joseph, whom his brothers sold to some travelers, had much authority in Egypt. And when his brothers came to buy grain, they did not know him, but Joseph recognized his brothers. Later Jacob’s family moved to Egypt, and that is the reason the Israelites were in Egypt.
Prayer: Lord, it is amazing how You can take evil and bring something good out of it. But all things are possible with You, and Your children can claim Your blessings through Christ. So we pray and thank You in His name. Amen.
