I Like Coffee – I Need Jesus

This morning I am thinking about coffee. I’m thinking about how much I enjoy coffee. You could say I love it. You could also say because I love it, I don’t want to do without it. I don’t plan to do without it. I do plan to try more brands, flavors and styles. It’s almost as though I need it. It’s definitely not a necessity. But I will enjoy a cup sometime this morning.

While coffee may not be dangerous, there are things we think we have to have that can be dangerous. There are addictions of course. Alcohol and drugs to name a couple. One moment it’s a pill that makes you hurt less, next thing you know it’s trapped you. One evening you think a glass of wine will help you relax after a rough day at work. Next thing you know you’re figuring out how to be alone so you can have more than you ever thought you’d need. What happens when our wants become our needs? We get trapped.

Oh beloved, God wants you to know this morning that He will fulfill all your needs. And there’s more, He will deliver those who come to Him – He doesn’t save people and leave them as they were before they got saved. He doesn’t assist in more hard living or dangerous intakes. He is the Deliverer – He wants to deliver all His children from the things that want to destroy their lives. This is why you pray for those you love and care about – so that God will send them help from His Sanctuary. And He is the Help. I don’t pray for people to go to church – I pray for God to come into their lives and do what only He can do. Someone may have told you or someone you care about that they are destined to be an addict or a loser or whatever. It’s a lie. Their destinies, your destiny, was settled long ago before the foundation of the world. When you realize you need Jesus, you just want more! And the more Jesus you have, the more you want to be clean before Him. It’s not about rules and regulations – Jesus came to fulfill that for you and me. It’s about relationship. It’s so important to Him that you need Him more than anything that He made voids in the hearts of mankind so that they can’t be truly fulfilled any other way!

God wants you to know that He is your ally, not your foe. He’s not here to take things from you. He’s here to relieve you of their burden. He’s here to give you more than you ever had in your human life. Jesus has come to give you everything you will ever need for life and godliness. Jesus came to give you true love, true faith, true peace, true joy, true purpose and everything else you could ever have need of. You aren’t the sum of your old life’s neediness – you are the fulfillment of all Jesus did on the cross and in the resurrection. Isn’t this amazing! You aren’t living in what you’ve lost or what’s been done to you anymore. You are living for Jesus and that beloved, is more than enough!

God loves you and He’s for you. He’s not measuring your lack or waiting to scold you for your weakness. He’s Pure Love and He pours His pure love out on you! Run to Him this morning, ask Him to reveal Himself to you in a new and powerful way. Don’t settle for low living and hungry hopelessness. Let Him do what He wants to do in your life and watch as you live this day with fresh fire and holy thoughts as you walk in the Spirit all the rest of your life!

Ephesians 3: 14 – 19 For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
