It’s Been A Rough Day

As I woke up one morning in April I was reminded of the polio outbreak of the early 50’s. In the United States, the 1952 epidemic was the worst outbreak in the nation’s history, and is credited with heightening parents’ fears of the disease. Of the 57,628 cases reported that year 3,145 died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis. I remember the fear. And I remember the sugar cubes with pink medicine that would prove to eradicate the dreaded disease forever in the US. I also remember knowing people who had contracted the disease.

Oh beloved, why look back? Why read up on this terrible disease that brought a terrible fear to the history of our country and around the world? God wants us to remember this morning that this too will pass. We aren’t perpetually tied up in pandemic. We are perpetually tied up in Christ. Even though bad things happen, we aren’t to lose our gumption as my mother would say. Within the life of a believer is more ability to have courage and use good sense. Turning to God is our birthright and it is our duty. Whatever God allows us to go through He will remain with us. Could this be the end? Considering that the Word tells us no man knows the exact hour or day, of course this could be the day.

God wants us to have lives of constant thanksgiving, praise and prayer. That’s our best inoculation against fear, worry, anger and resentment. What a beautiful day to wake up and hear God whisper His love songs into our mind to steady our hearts. You beloved, are here by the hand of the Lord. Fear for a believer has no place. It is not from God. So don’t entertain it. Neither is worry – can you add a single day to your life by worrying? (God’s Word not mine). Anger is what many folks are feeling right now. But anger won’t change anything, except the heart of the one who entertains it. God wants to apply the waters of His Kingdom to you this morning so that your bitter waters can become sweet.

God loves you and He’s for you. Could He be trying to get your attention? Always. Could He say He doesn’t love you? Never. Run to Him this morning and discuss it all with Him. Lay aside the weights that are holding you back from the grateful life of a believer. And live in the Light of God the Father, Jesus the Savior and Holy Spirit within full of thanksgiving and hope and obedience every single day!

Matthew 6: 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Ephesians 6: 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.

I John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

2 Corinthians 5: 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
