Who is Jesus? Is Jesus really God as He claimed to be? Is Jesus part of the trinity? Did Jesus create the earth? Was Jesus flesh and blood who actually lived on earth? Is Jesus the long-awaited Messiah that the sons of Abraham expected to come? What does the Bible have to say about Jesus? Take a look for yourself and decide.
Jesus is God
Jesus claimed to be God. He made reference to this many times. Below you will find a few of the scriptures referring to Jesus as God.
John 1: 18 “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only [Son], who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
John 10: 30 “I and the Father are one.”
Colossians 1: 15-17 “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.”
In these verses in Colossians, scripture tells us that Jesus holds everything together and in everything He has supremacy. Think about that for a moment. Jesus holds everything together…this vast universe, the stars in the sky and all the planets are held together by Him. He holds the earth together. He holds us together! He is Lord over all. He is the supreme authority. And because of who He is and what He did for us, we owe Him our allegiance. He is Lord, He is God, the Supreme Master, the Almighty.
John 17: 5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.”
Jesus was with the Father and the Spirit before the foundation of the world.
Revelation 1: 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1: 17-18 “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
John 1: 1-14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Jesus is God in the flesh. As a man, Jesus came to identify with our struggles and our temptations. He experienced human life without sin. He was born of flesh to become the Lamb of God who would take upon Himself the sins of the world and die on the cross as a substitute for our sins. He paid the sin price that day on the cross and was resurrected from the dead conquering death and sin in our place. Jesus is God. He is part of the trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He was from the beginning. He is the Alpha and Omega-the beginning and the end.
Hard to understand? Yes. Because we are humans created by God who can not understand the thoughts of God. We don’t have all the answers because we are not God. We don’t even have all the questions!
God has made Himself available to us through His very special plan. It was the salvation plan. A plan devised by God for our salvation through Jesus Christ. A plan devised before the foundation of the world.
Who is Jesus? He is God the Messiah, the Lamb of God, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Savior.
Jesus Christ the Messiah
Because of His love and desire for fellowship with His creation, when Adam and Eve sinned, God’s plan had already been determined even before He created the them. But God didn’t surprise us with this plan. He very carefully laid the plan in place so we would recognize Jesus when He made His appearance in the flesh. He would be called the Messiah (the one who saves) and many would look for Him. His coming was predicted many centuries before His birth in detail.
As a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and King David, Jesus was born into the Jewish family culture. He was a Jew by birth. God the Father chose for Jesus to be born of a virgin through the lineage of this people.
Since the time of Adam and Eve, Jesus ancestors began looking for this savior (Messiah) who would bruise the serpent’s head and restore their fellowship with God, the same fellowship Adam and Eve had experienced in the garden. Because of their sin, man can not come before Holy God on his own merit. God’s plan would require a sacrifice, an atonement for sin and the Holy Messiah would pay the price.
God had made a covenant with Abraham promising his descendants would be a blessing to the whole world. Isaac passed this covenant on to Jacob. Jacob in pronouncing his blessing to his son Judah, made a reference to the royal lineage of Judah (beginning with King David) in whose hands the scepter would not pass until Shiloh (Messiah) had come.
In Genesis and the rest of the Old Testament, many references to Jesus Christ the Messiah can be found. In fact, throughout the pages of scripture, there are many references.
In the New Testament, Jesus told the Pharisees in the temple:
John 5: 39,40,46, 49 “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life…46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.”
After his crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus told his disciples on the road to Emmaus:
Luke 24: 44 “He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’”
There are over 365 messianic prophecies concerning the coming of Jesus Christ in birth, life, death and resurrection. Here are just a few references in the Old Testament concerning Jesus.
Law of Moses: Genesis 3, 12, 17, 22, 49 Deuteronomy 18: 15, Numbers 24: 17 and more
Prophets: Isaiah 53, Isaiah 11: 1-5, Micah 5: 2 and more
Psalms: Psalm 16: 9-11, Psalm 22 and more

Jesus was with the Father and the Spirit as part of the trinity before the foundation of the earth was laid in place. He was part of the creation process. Everything that was made was made through Him-nothing was made without Him. And as Messiah, He would take on flesh, live a sinless life, and die on a cross for fallen man.
Jesus is Savior
God took on flesh to walk among us. His name was Jesus.
Because man is sinful, God had to provide a way for us to be reconciled to Himself, the Holy God. Jesus was that way…God in the flesh. This God/Man became our way to reconciliation to God. Reconciliation means “to bring back to harmony”. Because God is a Holy God, we could not and can not do this for ourselves. Sin can not enter His presence. Our harmony with God was broken by sin and only a sacrifice could bring us back. A sacrifice for sin by the shedding of blood had to be offered. That sacrifice was Jesus, the Holy Lamb of God. Jesus chose to be the sacrifice for you and me so we might boldly come before His throne and our harmony with God could be restored.
Colossians 1: 19-20 “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
John 1: 14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Matthew 1: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
John 1: 18 “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only [Son], who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
1 Peter 1: 18- 19 “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
Hebrews 10: 10 “…we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Hebrews 9: 22 “… the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
Jesus had to die with the shedding of blood. There had to be an atonement for sin. For my sin and yours. He died for you, yes, you!
Man categorizes sin into big or little sins. There is no difference. You have sinned no matter the type of sin. Sin is sin in God’s eyes. If you have ever told a lie-you are a sinner. If you have ever been disobedient in any way, you are a sinner. If you have gossiped about someone, you are a sinner. We all need a Savior. We need Jesus, the Messiah who has paid the price for our sin. It is now paid in full. All you have to do is believe that He is who He said He is. Believe that He is Lord and Savior and died on a cross as a sacrifice for you. He rose from the dead and is coming again.
Will you be one with the Son of God? Will you accept Jesus as your Savior?
