Mark 1: 23-26 “And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
… and in the synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit, but Jesus rebuked the demon and the man was healed.
Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon Peter and his mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and after Jesus rebuked the fever, it left her and she arose and served them.
Mark 1: 29-31 “Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.”
These are only two examples of Jesus’ power to heal those afflicted by demons and disease and though Jesus went to the synagogue to worship, He performed these wayside ministries.
Prayer thought: Heavenly Father, help each of us to be sensitive to the needs of others with whom we have contact today. We can’t cast out demons and heal people, but we can give a cup of cool water in Jesus’ name. Amen.
