Keeping Watch

We are pretty sure we have a thief who is waiting until dark to steal from us. Several mornings we’ve gone to the back deck to look for birds to find that the big bird feeder has been ransacked. Emptied of its contents meant for birds, we haven’t been able to find out for sure who it is doing the deed. But most likely it’s raccoons. Whatever it is, we are not amused. Danny nor I want to fill that bird feeder up every morning nor do we want to have to take it down every night.

Keeping watch is hard work. But someone has to do it.

Oh beloved, keeping watch against the enemy is hard work. It’s a spiritual endeavor that exercises your faith muscles. It can keep you awake at night; it can change your plans and it can give you grief. But someone has to do it. And God has called you to do just that – watch. He reminds you and me that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

But God has great plans to enable you to use the weapons of spiritual warfare in a mighty way. You aren’t spinning your wheels while keeping watch. You are changing the atmosphere. You are building a spiritual boundary around your home and property with every moment of prayer, with every eye on the Father, with every turn of your heart to the Spirit’s call. You may not see the thief in the natural but in the spirit, you are keeping him at bay. He comes to steal your resolve, kill your power and destroy your life. In the realm of defense, you are partnering with the Lord to keep your property, property God has given you, safe from harm. Receiving God’s love and walking in it makes you fearless and empowered to win the war against spiritual lethargy. When you are awakened in the night even if it’s to worry about something, stop the enemy in his tracks by praying, praising and blessing the Lord! He can’t speak through that and he won’t’ be able to steal your prayer life, your praise to God or your blessings! You win!

God loves you and He’s for you. Aren’t you blessed to know you don’t have to watch alone? Isn’t it a miracle that you don’t have to just be ransacked of your faith walk? Run to the Father this morning and thank Him for all He has done and ask Him to renew your fervor to watch and wait. And then live that powerful, overcoming life in the Glory and Honor of your King!
