“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15: 13
I had a coffee mug which a dear sister had given to me some years back. The mug was blue and brown and had the word hope on it. Lisa had asked if she could use my mug the first day she arrived. I replied that of course she could. She asked if she could use the mug for the time she would be staying with us. Once again, yes. She ended up being with us a week. At the end of the week I felt compelled to send the mug with her.
She had related to me that looking at the mug reminded her of the hope she had. Just one simple word on the cup…hope. That word reminded her that she had hope in her situation in Jesus. I told her that a sister in Christ gave me that cup and now I was giving it to her. And that one day she would give it to another. It would become a symbol of the hope we have in Christ being handed from one woman to another. It would be as if we were passing a torch, a flame that would light the way for each one of us which would then be passed on to the next person in need of that hope. This cup of hope would keep moving down the line of life from one to another. Lisa agreed and was excited about the thought. For this season she would hold onto that cup of hope for herself. And then one day…she would pass it on.
Who gave you a cup of hope? And how are you passing that cup on today? If you aren’t actively passing it on, simply ask the Lord to provide an opportunity for you to do so. My dear friend, may you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. And may that hope pour forth to all you come in contact with.
