Lord, Help Me Be a Better Waiter

Lord, Help Me Be A Better Waiter

One might think the older age one achieves, the more patient she will become.  Based on the following scripture in Romans 5: 4, perhaps God intended it to be so:

“But we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know our suffering produce perseverance; perseverance produces character, and character produces hope that does not disappoint us: for God has poured out His love in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.Romans 5: 4

So why do most elderly people find it more difficult to wait on others?  First, for an individual who has been independent, it is difficult and humiliating to depend on others for essentials of life.  Not being able to drive my automobile, truly is something I miss.  Because when I was able to drive, I could run errands and not depend on others. In fact, many blessings of life we enjoy and take for granted until unable to perform them.

Another thing that really tries the patience of an elderly individual, especially those with Type A personalities, is depending on a family member who has Type B personality.  Because the former wants an activity completed immediately, but Type B sees no reason to be in a hurry, and that often causes conflict.

And what about waiting on God when He appears to be silent?  Since I have not been able to attain that blessing,  I will give the remedy a great  prophet gave: after preaching and prophesying many years to people turning a deaf ear, Isaiah wrote:

“But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings of eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not be faint.”  Isaiah 40: 31

Father, You are the only One who knows the deep needs and desires of a child’s heart; so help each of us rely on the promise Isaiah gave and these two of David:

“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait I say on the Lord. Psalm 27: 13-14.

Also: “Be patient before the Lord, and wait patient.” Psalm 37: 7a

Heavenly Father, help each of Your children who reads this, to wait on You today and trust You for faith to wait patiently. We will need divine help; so we ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
