Scripture: Luke 10: 38-42
“…Jesus entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister named Mary, who sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went to Jesus and asked if He didn’t care that her sister had left her alone to serve. But Jesus reminded her she was troubled and anxious unimportant things but Mary had chosen that which can not be taken away.”
On another occasion before Jesus was crucified Mary anointed Jesus with some rather expensive ointment and was criticized by some saying it was a waste. Later Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha died, and Jesus purposely delayed His arrival, but restored him to life. Martha and Mary rebuked Jesus for tarrying, but rejoiced after Lazarus was restored to life.
Prayer thought: Mary and Martha are not mentioned among those standing at the foot of the cross while Jesus was being crucified, but they loved Jesus and were devoted disciples. Though I love Jesus, I don’t enjoy seeing some of the indignities He endured. Father, I do thank You in Jesus’ name for paying my sin debt on that old rugged cross. Amen.
