My Hope, My Faith

Sometimes life’s deck of cards deals us a hand we would like to “pass on.” If only we could have a new set of cards, a new set of circumstances, our life would be so much better. It’s that “the grass is greener on the other side” mentality that so many of us have adopted. That line of thinking, however, leaves us disabled and ineffective in our world. We aren’t the dealer of our cards. Our lives are not in our own hands, and because of my faith I can say I’m ok with that. You see, I’ve seen the faces of the hopeless in the hospitals. I’ve seen the sadness in the eyes of the broken hearted. I’ve witnessed the lostness of the lonely. Despair and darkness have invaded so many peoples lives. At times, my own circumstances have seemed insurmountable. It would be easy to believe that we have no hope for anything better than the hand we are dealt today…if a person didn’t have faith in God.

The news is full of information telling us that unemployment continues to haunt millions of Americans, cancer continues to kill its victims, and crimes are on the rise. We watch helpless as natural disasters seem to occur every day and the numbers of fatherless children climb. Morality is mocked by television shows and political candidates now gain votes for voting in support of bills that directly contradict the Word Of God. If you just look around, it would seem that our world is spiraling into a quick demise. How do we change our fate? What can we do? I believe for our country to survive, we are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We are called to put our HOPE in HIM. The good NEWS is that He has overcome death and has gone to prepare us a place in Heaven for all of us that confess with our mouths that He is Lord. I have FAITH that God, our Father, loves us and has a plan for us, He even sent His only son to die for us. By deciding to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that Christ died for my sins, and that He is coming back one day, I was set free. My faith has set me free from feelings of hopelessness, feelings of fearfulness, and feelings of unworthiness. My past mistakes are now forgiven and I am a new creation in God’s eyes. I could just stop right there, praise God for His forgiveness and love, but I won’t stop because I believe that the “concept of faith” may need more explanation.

I have FAITH that God is the Creator of everything. I have FAITH that no matter what, and come what may, He has the final say in all details for all of eternity. I also have FAITH that one day He will right every wrong and vanquish the little god of this world, Satan, and allow us to live for eternity in Heaven with Him. Two of my favorite verses from the Bible address our faith. Hebrews 11: 6 says “It is impossible to please God without FAITH.” In Romans 10: 17 it is written that “FAITH comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” Keeping those two verses in mind, it would be impossible for me to talk about my FAITH without using scripture to explain my belief.

Faith is a difficult concept for so many people to grasp, and as I really analyze my own FAITH I find it difficult to write about, because it requires a belief in something indescribable and supernatural. I know that God saved me, He changed me, and I am His. I have FAITH that with God all things are possible. The Bible says in Hebrews 11: 1 that ” FAITH is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” In other words, believing in something you can’t see is having FAITH. The first step to having salvation would be to believe in Jesus. In other words, you have FAITH in Him, and you admit that you believe Jesus died for your sins, and that He is the son of God. That is ALL it takes to have salvation. Acts 16: 31 says “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” There isn’t anything else to it. Ephesians 2: 8-9 say “For by grace you are saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.” You don’t earn your way into Heaven. It is a gift that God gives you freely if you accept it.

My faith gives me hope to face this world’s obstacles. I believe in Jeremiah 29: 11 where it says “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” In finding my own TRUTH in life, no matter how challenging the issues may be, I have met my maker. As a result, I’ve come up with this explanation: God is ON THE THRONE. I am sure that flies in the face of many unbelievers, but I am here to tell you – there is a peace that comes with a faith in Jesus Christ. We are not hopeless. We can not give up. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us.” (Hebrews 12: 1) Because of my faith in Christ, I have hope. Hope to face tomorrow. If you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I pray you will turn to Him today. Put your faith in the one thing that will always remain. For examples of people who had FAITH in scripture read Hebrews 11.
