Out Of The Shallows

Not long ago I dreamed that we took visiting friends to the lake. When we arrived at the lodge we could see a bit of water that wasn’t very deep and lots of people swimming.

They were not very impressed. “Is this all there is?” I told them the area we were at was just the tip of the iceberg. If they’d get out in the water and look beyond the swimming area, they’d see the expanse of the beautiful lake and be amazed.

Oh beloved, truth is we often don’t go beyond the swimming area do we? We are content with the tranquility of floating in clear cool water. But listen, what you and I have experienced is just the tip of the iceberg! God has so much more for us than we can imagine. And it’s just beyond the shallows.

God wants you to know that the lake in this dream means peace, tranquility and rest. But He wants to take you deeper. He wants to take you to new depths, give you a greater measure of influence and beauty. Truly the tip of the iceberg often means trouble, but God means more of His good gifts!

Going beyond the shallows will give you more. Instead of seeing the troubles, you see His hand. Instead of focusing on your lack, you see His favor. Instead of concentrating on your heartbreak, you see His tranquility. For God is not unaware of what you are going through. And He didn’t cause the problems you have. But He will use the present situation to give you more of Himself! And what you need most is more of Him! He makes oases out of deserts. He makes high dives out of shallows. He takes your wrecked dreams and builds you a plan that is more beautiful than you’d ever think. All you have to do is dive in with Him and look beyond the natural.

God loves you and He’s for you. He has great empathy towards your life – the heartache, the rejection, the loss and all. But His empathy won’t leave you in the shallows. He wants you to run to Him this morning and let Him change your view completely as you live in the Light of His amazing mercy and grace.

Job 11: 7 Can you fathom the deep things of God or discover the limits of the Almighty?

Luke 5: 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

Ephesians 3: 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.

1 Corinthians 2: 6 Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom–but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

I Corinthians 2: 9 but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.”
