Setting Your Mind on Things Above

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:11

Satan is relentless in his attempts to take over our minds through our thoughts, our hearts with only his desires and, finally, ownership of our souls. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy, therefore he is very manipulative, as well as, extremely convincing. This is why we need to arm ourselves with scripture every day.

We may not always have control over when negative thoughts enter our minds, but we do have control over what we decide to do with these thoughts. If we choose to entertain them, our minds begin to build on them, therefore allowing this negativity to travel to our hearts where they become feelings. See how easily satan can manipulate?

We must take a stand against this. Paul tells us in his letter to the church at Corinth that we must “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Every morning during my bible study time, I like to choose one scripture and meditate on it throughout the day, so that when satan begins to attack, I’ll be ready for him. Before long, that mess of anxiety and fear that the enemy has tried to use to take over our minds, begins its transformation into thoughts and feelings of peace and joy.

2 Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Prayer

Father God, I come to you in this day, in this time especially, to thank you for teaching us how to put on your full armor. We know who the enemy really is and we thank you, Lord, for giving us your Word, so that we may fight these attacks and flourish in rich new lives grounded in Christ. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
