While living as an evacuee in a rehabilitation center after suffering three sieges of pneumonia, I was almost helpless: even must wear diapers, wear a container of oxygen, and endure physical therapy.
However, rehabilitation was necessary if I was to regain my strength. For a woman with type A personality, who wants to be in control of all her circumstances, this was a humbling experience, but during my weakest moments the Holy Spirit gave me strength to endure it. Though in the hospital and unable to celebrate my one hundredth birthday, my son Doug brought my pretty birthday cake to the hospital and I ate a slice of cake before it was placed in the hospital refrigerator.
Then after enjoying better health, my friend Scotti Strickland and some of her helpers hosted a magnificent birthday celebration for me. It was hosted in August at the church which I attend when able, and many people came by to wish me a happy birthday. Also I received many pretty, meaningful cards, had a decorated throne, and truly felt like Queen for a Day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, only You and I really know the extent of my suffering during the first part of 2018, but thank You for being with me during everything! Now I can say with David, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, You are with me.” Praise and thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
