God says I AM that I AM. I AM your Captain and I will navigate you safely to the yet unseen shore.
“Steady as she goes.”
I hear these words as I get up this morning. So of course I look for the origin of the phrase and I find it quite interesting. Here is what I read: It is a instruction from the captain to the helmsman of a ship, to keep the ship heading steadily on the same course regardless of gusts of wind or cross-currents. And then I read these words: When in vicinity of the shore the helmsman may be given some shore-based objects as references for keeping the vessel on a certain course of the shore.
Oh beloved, we are in a situation where the cross currents and gusts are trying to impede our navigation. We want to listen to our Captain and remain steady as we go, but oh my goodness. We just want to get out of the boat and head back to the safety of the shore we’ve always known. Whether it’s worrying about the weather or concern for our friends, we are in treacherous waters. Satan wants you and I to focus on the wind and the waves. But God says I AM that I AM. I AM your Captain and I will navigate you safely to the yet unseen shore.
He also says He has given us shore based objects as references for keeping our vessels on the right course. We have His Word, which is denotes our ultimate shoreline, heaven. We have His instructions for navigating this life in the course of all our situations. Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. But now Lord? Even in this season of panic? Just as the helmsman must be steady as he goes, listening to his captain for navigation, we too must steady our hearts. So that we can listen and obey. Remember, even the winds and the waves obey Jesus, our Author and Finisher of our faith. Remember we aren’t just listening for advice from someone we hope knows what he’s doing. We have the Greater within us than the one in the world. We aren’t just fearful beings with our eyes closed, hoping we don’t crash on the rocks. You and I are Ambassadors, trained by Holy Spirit to discern right from wrong and truth from lies.
God loves you and He’s for you. Stop trying to navigate on your own. Control issue spring from a heart not secure in Christ. Run to the Father this morning, admit that you are concerned. Then let Him change your heart and give you fresh instructions to live valiantly and purposefully. Then live in the Light of the Shore where you will ultimately be home at last.
