Who Are You Talking To?

Job 38: 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.” I got a big aha moment about 4:30 am one morning… I had a situation wake me up that I proceeded to pray and tell God how to fix it!!! Imagine how presumptuous that was!!!  But nevertheless He waited until I had carefully laid out my plan and then said something that I say to Drew all the time. “Remember,  Who you are talking to… in essence Who is the Parent?” “Who is the One who knows the most about …

God Works for Good, Even Through Sin and Evil

Life is sometimes hard to figure out. One minute we’re breezing through life, things are going well and then within a blink of an eye, tragedy happens. Two things happen when tragedy occurs. You either cry out to God, or you blame Him. God loves His people, those who know Him, those who have a relationship with Him. He ALWAYS wants the best for His kids. As trials come, they test the strength of our faith. In every trial, we are tested, refined, and made stronger than before. Before you go blaming God for your current situation, stop …

God Provides in Unexpected Ways

II Kings 7 includes a most unusual story concerning the citizens of the capital city, Samaria, in the Northern Kingdom.  The city has been under siege by the Arameans from Syria led by Ben Haddad II, and conditions are desperate.  It’s a dark picture of scarcity of food, inflation, starvation, cannabalism, and death. Elisha delivered the Word of the Lord promising that circumstances were about to change in 24 hours.  (From despair to hope, from scarcity to plenty) Choices:  The king’s right hand man expressed his mocking doubt upon hearing the prophecy.  Four lepers were witnesses of God’s deliverance – …

Jesus Christ Is the Glorious Reflection

“We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the …

My wonderful husband takes such good care of me. He made it so my feet would be warm at night. He placed our electric mattress pad on the bed for me. I turned it on and wow it was nice. The next night I thought I turned it on again, only it was just the small heating pad lying on the floor beside the bed. Well the spot on the carpet was warm but not my feet! Finally after turning things off and on and not feeling warm at all I realized something. The heating mattress pad was not on …

The Affirmation Idol

“You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20: 3 In the book of Judges God’s people continued to return to idol worship. They bowed down to graven images as they served the gods of the people living in the promised land.  We as 21st century believers are just as prone to idol worship but instead of Baal or Ashteroth, ours may be called comfort, control, or affirmation. Have you considered praise from others to be an idol? Of course, there is nothing wrong with receiving or releasing encouragement.  It’s Biblical to bless one …

Never Alone in the Storm

It has been a very stormy night in Arkansas. It began earlier in the day with heavy rains all during the day in the northern half of the state. There is thunder rumbling in the distance even now in the early hours of the new day. Nobody minds a spring thunder storm but this has been an intense amount of weather. It’s gone on for too long and it hasn’t let up yet. It is relentless. Friends have even spent time in their safe places and some are still there at this hour. Thousands are without power. Oh beloved, the …

Fall Devotions

Day 2 Fall – to lose the old, to have its proper place.  This is just part of the many definitions of what the dictionary says “fall” is.   What is crazy is that the dictionary is talking about fall like ‘I fell down’, not fall like ‘the season’ and yet how appropriate the definition is. I love fall!!  The color change, the weather change, the smell change…..its about change.  But to change means that something must go. As I sit here looking out the window with massive trees all around my back yard, I see it happening …

Understanding God

“Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of His burning anger.” Isaiah 13:13 Our God is faithful and His heart is for us, but He is also a wrathful God. He is perfect, and in the same way that darkness cannot remain in the presence of light our imperfection cannot remain in the presence of His perfection for long. We are warned multiple times that His day is coming, the day the whole world will see His power. Here in Isaiah 13, …
