Anger Blinds

We see a lot of bitterness and anger in the story of Jonah.  We see it in Jonah’s countenance, his actions, and his heart. He has contempt for the Ninevites; he is angry toward God; and he is even angry toward a plant and a worm. (Jonah 4:4)  The Lord asked, “Is it right for you to be angry?’ (Jonah 4:9)  “Then God asked Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “Yes, it’s right,” Jonah replied, “I’m angry enough to die!” Jonah’s Response: When God showed compassion to the ones Jonah hated – Rage.  When …

Jonah’s Nature in Us

Be careful – there is a lot of Jonah’s nature in us. We see what Jonah values –  self.  He expresses joy when God shows him compassion in providing comfort, but expresses anger when God shows compassion for citizens of Nineveh. Jonah is all about self-comforts and worldly values. God Values  Life. “So the Lord said, ” You cared about the plant, which you did not labor over and did not grow. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be …

No Kissey Kissey, We Went to Bed Mad

Spend a bit of time on Pinterest and you’ll almost always find a bedroom quote that reads “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” or maybe, “Never go to bed angry”… ohhh or even “Love conquers ALL.” So many quotes on so much ship-lap thanks to Mrs. Gaines and HGTV. Guess what – those quotes on that cute ship-lap can go jump in the creek. We went to bed angry! And you guess it, we woke the same! The Mr. seemed to give in and lose most of his immature frustration during the course of the next day; but nooo, not me. …

Anger

I am learning an ongoing lesson.  Have you ever been really angry at someone for good reasons and then God said don’t?  The last couple of days I have been angry and felt completely justified in my anger but this morning-God said: I was not to be provoked. 1 Cor 13: 4-7 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;  does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, …
