Jesus on Trial

John 18: 12 b-14  “… after Jewish officials arrested Jesus, they bound Him and brought Him first to Annas,. father in law of Ciaphas, the high priest that year, who had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people.” Can you conceive of the ill-treatment shown the Savior of the world? Instead of treating Him with love and respect, He was treated like a criminal. But before we are too critical of those people: have you and I shown Jesus the respect He deserves in our lives? Have we given …

The Death of the Lamb

John the Baptist had said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”   It had been God’s divine plan from before the creation of the heavens and the earth for Jesus to become the sacrificial lamb for the sins of man. And now the Lamb of God was dead.  He had been sacrificed on the cross. Jesus had died from crucifixion on a Roman cross. Everything seemed lost to the followers of Jesus.  The despair was overwhelming.  The disciples were scattered and afraid the Romans would be coming for …

His Appointed Time

God’s divine plan had arrived to the appointed time on God’s calendar for the saving of the souls of man.  He had designed a plan before the beginning of the creation of the heavens and the earth to show man what redemption from sin looks like.  He had designed every detail.  From the creation of Adam and Eve, down through history God was showing man what was required to receive forgiveness of sin. The Bible records verse after verse of instructions for worshiping and pleasing God and points directly to the coming of His Messiah Jesus Christ for redemption of …

The Crucifixion

Please read Psalm 22 to see the references to Jesus. Before the beginning of time and the creation of the heavens and the earth, God planned for the sacrifice of His one and only son as the Lamb of God to redeem us from sin. God laid out His plan of salvation in the pages of the Old Testament written down hundreds of years before Jesus was born. There are many scriptures of prophecy concerning Jesus.  Scripture tells us where He would be born, what He would be do, how He would die and so much more.  One of most …

By the Way of the Cross

Isaiah 53: 4-5,12  “Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering…But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities…He poured out His life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” My name you do not know.  Throughout history, I have only been known as the thief on the cross.  My name is not important.  My story is.  My life began about 2000 years ago.  I was born into a respectable Jewish family.  We attended the synagogue and celebrated …

The Cross of Christ part 1

Intersection, Substitution, Completion Our journey through the Gospel of Mark brings us to the pinnacle of our faith, the reason we have hope, and the very essence of the gospel message.   The Cross of Christ.   Today’s devotion is devoted to the word intersection.   As we study Mark 15: 21-47 and the crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus — God has given me three key words that convey three key truths: 1. Intersection  2. Substitution 3. Completion The Cross of Christ represents all three. Intersection Of course, the Cross is a literal intersection – we see …

The Psalms

Luke 24:44-45 “Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”  And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.” God’s complete plan for the salvation of man through the blood of Jesus Christ is written down and given to us piece by piece throughout Scripture until it was revealed in the New Testament through the birth of Jesus the Messiah. Psalms speaks of …
