You’ll Need to Let Go Of the Ashes

Did you know that God’s best work is turning ashes into beauty? But, before He can do a work in us, we must let go of the ashes. We can’t hold onto the past and expect to go forward. We can’t dwell on what happened to us and expect God to turn things around. You also can’t harbor unforgiveness and hurt and trust that God’s going to honor your requests. But, once you let go and give it all to God, you’ll be blown away at how God can turn your life around. It’s hard to see the beauty in …

Clear Out the Clutter

I admire some aspects of the minimalists. Most have a clean, sometimes sparse home. They tend to live life simply. The few I know have a small amount of furniture, with very little art on the walls. On the other side of this as a group, sometimes called, “hoarders.” A hoarder is someone who hoards things. Some collect and keep things, even things that may seem useless or of little value. These things tend to clutter the living spaces and might limit them from using the space or area as intended. Hoarders tend to have a lot of anxiety. They …

It’s Not About Perfection

It’s not about perfection. It’s about practice. Some of you may know someone who always wants things perfect; someone who likes things in order and gets stressed out if they’re not. Nobody’s perfect, and if you’re a Christian, you know that our perfection is only found in Jesus, and when He takes us home to live with Him one day, our lives will accomplish perfection. Jesus doesn’t expect us to be the ‘perfect’ Christian. He asks that we obey Him and succumb to His will, daily. How do we do this? Practice. To be good at something, anything, it takes …

Victory in Everything

Victory in everything. We all love the thrill of victory. Some say they get a ‘high’ out of watching their team win a game. I love it when I follow a recipe and the results are mouth watering! Everyone loves to win, but how are you winning in life? Do you occasionally have little victories on the job that keep you motivated? Are you looking for opportunities to put a spark in your marriage? Are you consistently seeking to serve others? God wants to give us victory in everything. He wants our life to be successful, our marriages to thrive …

People Don’t Care What You Know

People don’t care what you know until they know you care. I heard the above statement yesterday and it is so true. John 11: 33 – “When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled.” The best thing we can do for people when they are hurting is to listen. Open up your heart and really listen to what they’re saying, or even what they’re not saying. When people are discouraged or troubled, they don’t want advice from us, they just want to tell …

Get Out of ‘Selfie Mode”

‘Get out of ‘selfie mode.’ Everywhere you go, you’ll see someone taking a picture of themselves, a selfie. I’ll admit, I’ve done it. But some people take it too far. They take selfies when they’re eating their favorite food, or standing in front of a famous landmark. Does it sound like we’re obsessed with ourselves? Are we solely thinking of ‘me’ all the time? Philippians 2: 3 – “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” The Bible clearly states to not merely look at our own personal interests, but to …

Faith Not Tested

Faith that has not been tested is faith that cannot be trusted. If you’ve been a Christian more than 24 hours, then you can’t deny that your faith has already been tested. Moments after my conversion to Christ, the devil was trying to tell me, “that didn’t work, you’re not saved.” Testing our faith is one way that God determines our authenticity. God knows our heart already, He just wants to bring it out in our character. I’ve had my faith tested many many times over the years. Most of the time I failed the test. But, the wonderful thing …

Pride

Pride can be a dangerous thing. The opposite of being prideful is being humble. Are you too proud to ask for help? Proverbs 16: 5 – “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.” I can remember my own kids, more specifically, my daughter, as she was a, let’s just say ‘active’ toddler. As her strong-willed character began to blossom, I became more aware of what I needed to do to enable her character to submit to my will. Often times her stubborn pride won, but over time, she …

Trail Mix

I love trail mix; a mixture of dried fruit, nuts and sometimes seeds. I usually make my own, but when I buy it from the store, I never know what I’ll get. I find myself picking out the pieces of dried pineapple, or my favorite nuts. And when I get to the end of the bag, all that’s left are the pieces I don’t really care for. Isn’t this the way some people treat Christianity? They will go to church on Sunday but be too busy during the week for a Bible study. Or, they will treat their best friend …

Through His Eyes

If you are a Christian and you have given your life to Christ, then you can’t help but love others. God gives you the gift of the Holy Spirit. God places in you a love for others. He purposely gives you compassion in your heart. He will allow you to see others through His eyes! Isaiah 50: 4 –“The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.” …

Motivation

People are motivated by two things: They’re motivated by principle and pleasure, or they are motivated by pain. We create our own jail cells, where bars are made of anger, bitterness, resentment and grudges. What’s the key to all of this? Forgiveness. It’s your choice. Do you want to stay where you are, in misery, or do you want to be free from this state of mind? When we’re hurting it’s only human to want to blame someone else. Quit running away from it. Face the fear. Forgive. Once you forgive, you’re given the opportunity to live an amazing life of …

Pray Like You Know God Will Answer You!

Are you praying to God as if you know Him, or are you just throwing up some requests, not expecting much? If you want specific answers to prayer, make specific requests. Nehemiah 1: 8-9 – “Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell …
