By Faith

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11 For some reason I woke up this morning an hour earlier than I normally do. I then tried to will myself back to sleep but felt the urging to get up and get my day going. During this season in my life, when I sense the need to do something, I have learned to be obedient. As I become more discerning, I realize that is the Holy Spirit speaking into me and I just need to obey the call. Little did I know that the longing to write this morning would wash over me …

God Can’t Be Canceled

There’s been much talk in the last months about cancel culture. So being the curious person I am, I decided to look up the definition of it. Here is what I found. “Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive.” Oh beloved, God speaks to our hearts. He wants us to know this morning that He knows there is a move in the earth today to cancel all references to Him, to cancel the worth and necessity of Biblical virtues and …

Memorial to Moses!

Scripture: Deuteronomy 34:10-12. “Since Moses’ death no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. Who did all those miraculous signs and wonders God sent him to do in Egypt to Pharaoh and all his officials: for no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in sight of all Israel.” Probably it was Moses’ experience at the burning bush that is referred to in this scripture. Have you ever thought how you would react if face to face with God? Each of us will …

Faithful Father Figure

“You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.” Deuteronomy 14:2 No one really wants to stand out as “different”. We want to be accepted and included. Popularity is considered success.  It is not easy to stand out or stand alone. Whether it is how we dress or look or act, we find comfort in “fitting in”.  We are comfortable when we can agree with others and they agree with us. Standing up as a Christian is …

You Always Have Somewhere To Go

Having been born in Houston we knew about evacuating when bad weather came. Fortunately for us we always came to Arkansas for a family visit. We always had somewhere to go. This morning when I heard the rain, I was blessed with memories of how a bad situation always turned into a blessed time. Oh beloved, it’s hard to believe, but even your bad situation is not your destiny. The weather report, the health report, the financial report – all of them are just part of your life. And these parts of your life ebb and flow – hard times …

Detours Don’t Deter

When I went into town a couple of days ago there was a sign up that said Highway 51 closed to through traffic. I assumed it was out past the bridge. Later when I drove down Pine Street, I was surprised that it was in the middle of town that the street was closed and detour signs were posted. When detours in life come our way we can be very surprised. We assume it won’t happen where we are, but a detour is better than an accident. We have to heed the signs and follow God no matter what. Oh beloved, …

Do You Need Proof?

We haven’t seen any deer in our yard in a while. But the evidence that they pass through is there with hoof prints in the soft earth. We only saw crawdads while we were working on the retaining wall, but the evidence that they are still around remains with their mud towers coming out of the earth. Evidence of things not seen. Oh beloved, God is like that. We may not always directly see Him but we have evidence of Him in our lives. He saves us and changes our heart. He gives us a new and living way to …

Understanding God

“Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of His burning anger.” Isaiah 13:13 Our God is faithful and His heart is for us, but He is also a wrathful God. He is perfect, and in the same way that darkness cannot remain in the presence of light our imperfection cannot remain in the presence of His perfection for long. We are warned multiple times that His day is coming, the day the whole world will see His power. Here in Isaiah 13, …

God’s Wrath
