God-I AM

God is I am. How we individually interpret that statement will have profound impact on how we perceive God. He is the One God who already IS and the only God who is to Come. He spoke this revolutionary truth to Moses when He appeared as a burning bush. God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you’” Exodus 3: 14 The Israelites had just made wooden idols to worship. They were frustrated and tired of waiting on the Lord. We’ve …

You Can Fly

When I was a little girl I thought I could fly. Seriously. I’d stand on the couch and jump and in my youthful imagination I’d sweep around the living room through the air and back to the couch. It was pretty exhilarating and gave me a sense of oh so much freedom. Eventually I quit “flying”. I got older and attributed that ability to fly to my imagination. Oh beloved, God reminds me of youthful flying this morning because He wants you to know your abilities in Christ including flying! Soaring in the Spirit is your birthright as a born …

Unshakable Thanks

We are all on a journey.  And as Paul says, we do not travel that journey as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4: 13). We know that we have a Savior sitting at the right hand of the Father who delights in us.  We have the Word of God that is living and active.  We have the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, giving us gifts to make the best use of our time here on Earth.  And we have the fellowship of other believers to offer friendship, prayer, encouragement and council.  We have hope, …

Freedom and Personal Liberty

I am so glad to be born in America. So often I wonder why I was born in a land of so many freedoms, while someone else millions of miles away was born into an area of oppression and hardship. I know things are not always easy here in the US. There is a terrifying and growing slave trade here that rivals any other country. There is poverty, hunger, unemployment, abuse, and many other areas that are keeping America from becoming the amazing place it could be. Comparatively, however, the United States is a pretty great place …

Oh Pioneer!

While we were hitting the back roads we came upon some campers. Now these campers were in a remote part of the area and had no electricity or running water. It was primitive. We’ve seen these types of campers in this area before. They were probably living in a tent and their vehicle. We didn’t see them at first. We did see their cardboard sign. That’s what made us stop. “Need $5 for cigarettes. Will trade for Firewood.” About the time we got the sign read we saw a woman in a long black dress moving through the thicket …

For Freedom We Are Set Free

For Freedom We Are Set Free How often do we take our freedom for granted?  Not only do we tend to get calloused toward the everyday freedoms we have (speech, religion, etc.) but, as Christians, it’s sobering to realize how often we become numb to the personal freedom offered through the Holy Spirit as well.  We go through our day to day lives with narrow thinking, guilty conscious, worry, fear, anxiety, selfishness, and sin.  Yet Christ said in John 10: 10 “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (NASB) This is echoed again …

Stand Firm

Danny’s first visit by a physical therapist involved a belt. It was so colorful. It reminded me of a belt Danny had in the 70’s. The therapist put it around Danny and then they stood up together. Huge victory! He was standing firm. I now find myself having to stand firm. And I realize that it’s in the big mountains of life where we learn to stand the most firmly. Oh beloved, this is no ordinary day. This is the day when you can stand firm in your faith. You can stand for righteousness. You can stand against evil. And …

Freedom in Jesus

Freedom in Jesus…three words that hold a multitude of meaning. Once you meet Jesus, the freedoms you experience are innumerable. One that has been on my mind, recently, is the freedom to dream. I’ve been thinking about it more than I ever have, so believe me when I say, that’s a LOT! You see, most of my life has been spent dreaming. When I was a kid, I would literally spend hours at a time just letting my mind create scenes that I hoped would someday come true…some were feasible, but others were just plain outrageous.  I suppose it could …

Why the Long Way?

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea… Exodus 13: 17-18 We all know the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but God’s route for leaving Egypt was to lead the people the LONG way around rather than the shortest. The short route would have taken them through Philistine country. He chose to avoid …

Feeding Hungry

I just wanted to share a lesson of mine with anyone who might enjoy or relate to it.  It sure was an eye opener for me.  Have you ever been really irritated about a situation and ended up taking it out (justly or not) on someone else?  Well that was my week last week.  I was in a mood and everything anyone did would set me on edge.  So as I am praying my morning prayers the Lord showed me Ephesians 6: 12  “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the …

Returning to Egypt

As I was praying about what my lesson for tonight would be, I read in Exodus about the children of Israel and their constant proclaiming to love and obey God then immediately going out of God’s will once things got tough.  How like me. The children of Israel had been in the wilderness a little while.  They had manna and quail, God had miraculously delivered them from Egyptian slavery, and the hands of Amalek and provided for their every need. About this time Moses was called up on the mountain to speak with God and get His instructions for …
