Making History?

This time a year ago my hubby wasn’t working and we were facing two future surgeries we knew nothing about yet. He came through both of those with flying colors and today he works, both at home and in his former job. We made it. I say we because we were in it together. While ahead of time our history is a mystery, once we go through whatever we go through, we are changed. We can allow the changes to make us or break us. We can focus on what happened or we can focus on Who got us through …

The Word is – Ocean

When I was young we lived near the ocean – well the Gulf of Mexico.  One day I was dipping my two year old toes into the waves, barely.  My parents were laughing and talking together on the beach.  I looked at them having so much fun and said, “I guess you guys are just gonna let me drown!” (I based that on the tv news that shared a young boy had gotten caught in a rip tide and drowned recently) Oh beloved, feel like you’re drowning in the ocean? Do you think God has forgotten you and is just …

Helping or Trusting?

I am really good at helping my husband. Sometimes I go overboard. Case in point. He wanted a new/different hammer drill. So he had one picked out and was planning to go to Little Rock to get it. Well, I decided I could order one and get it to the house quicker than he could go get it in the store. I wanted to save time and save him some trouble. My motive was honorable. Only I didn’t order the right kind. I ordered one like he already had. “Don’t try to help me so much” was his reply. Thankfully …

Bigger Than The Ocean

When I was young we lived near the ocean – well the Gulf of Mexico.  One day I was dipping my two year old toes into the waves, barely.  My parents were laughing and talking together on the beach.  I looked at them having so much fun and said, “I guess you guys are just gonna let me drown!” (I based that on the tv news that shared a young boy had gotten caught in a rip tide and drowned recently) Oh beloved, feel like you’re drowning in the ocean? The Hunt

While on the hunt for a particular item we wanted to buy, we found the cheap, the cute and the outrageously priced – all in the same item. We finally went to the standard mega store and found exactly what we wanted for much less. You’d suspect we sacrificed quality or style to save on the item. But no, actually the least expensive was also the best design and made of the most durable material. The hunt for fulfilment can cost much. And yet, even after spending all a person has, they can still come up with nothing they wanted. …

A Rough Patch?

It was just going to be a simple fix up downstairs in our open living area and kitchen. We looked at lots of flooring but there was that idea that we could just have the floors stained since we’re on a slab. That was a great idea. Until we began to pull up the flooring in the kitchen area. What we found was a rough patch of concrete that was flaking off. Because of this small area of trouble we would have to completely skim coat the entire downstairs area – over a thousand square feet. We went back to …

Do You Know You’re Accepted?

As I swiped my card at the local discount store the electronic machine went through the motions just like every other time I’ve shopped. This time though I noticed at the end I saw this word: ACCEPTED. I laughed and told the cashier thanks for accepting me. We both laughed and I took my purchases to the car and then home. ACCEPTED. Such a simple word. Such a profound message. To be accepted from the viewpoint of Christ He agreed to take us into His Kingdom. He consented to give His own life for us. God gave us a positive …

Truth Or Dare

Truth or dare we used to play a lot when we were kids. We’d have to make a choice whether to tell the truth about something or be dared to do something dangerous or crazy. I always chose to tell the truth but I have friends who might remember they chose climbing the roof at 10 pm instead of telling.  It was all in good fun and back then we didn’t have many deep dark secrets to reveal anyway. The devil will dare you to believe his wild tales. He will try to convince you to confess you don’t believe …

Drink the Word With Jesus

When I get up in the morning I make a pot of coffee. It’s just one of the things we enjoy. Without coffee life can feel groggy. We are prepared. We have at least two large containers of the ground stuff, a great coffee pot and enough cups to let 30 or so people drink with us if we wanted. Along with the extras for coffee such as creamer and sweetener, we are ready to get the best out of our cup in the morning.  We make the coffee the way we like it. It’s become a part of our …

God’s Ways

Danny is rebuilding a motorcycle. This will be an ongoing project for a while. He could not find the right pair of handlebars he was looking for at the swap meet, so he resorted to online purchasing. But it wasn’t that simple. Everything had to be right. More things than I even knew about. I couldn’t have gotten the right pair because I don’t know all the details. Finally, after much searching and reading, he found the pair he knew would work. I hear the scripture speak to my heart this morning – “My ways are higher than your ways.” …

New View, New You

One of our daughters got a new camera setup for Christmas. It’s got all the bells and whistles. She is sure enjoying photography like never before. They went out to the lake one afternoon and she took pictures of what appeared to be a group of egrets flying. The camera captures details that the naked eye cannot see by just observing. When she got home she realized it was birds of another feather. The camera caught something amazing. She had an “old” camera which is a pretty awesome camera itself. But she doesn’t want to go back to what she …

Rejoice!

“How my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For He took notice of His lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and He has done great things for me.” These are Mary’s words shared in Luke [1:46]-49. She was a young girl, probably 15 or 16 years old, and she was ready to marry a man who was righteous and good. These are Mary’s words after the Angel of the Lord came to her one night, a night that otherwise would have …
