Bless His Name

Have you ever had a moment where you just had to stop and give God the glory? In the book of Daniel, there was a powerful King who ruled the land. A tyrant, to say the least. The contrast of where his heart was as a domineering king is made apparent next to Daniel’s humble obedience and utter dependence on the Lord. When Daniel’s three companions would not bow down and pay homage to King Nebuchadnezzar, it was ordered that they be bound and thrown in the fiery furnace. The three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were found to be …

Show Me Your Glory

Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God? “John 11:40 (ESV) I recall Christmas Eve several years ago suddenly waking at 4:30 am. I was about to  learn it would be a morning of great surrender, something I will never forget.  My morning routine was to fill a mug with coffee and then open my Bible. With Christmas lights twinkling, I continued with my routine, then lit the fireplace and began pouring out my heart to Father God. Sitting warm and cozy,  I read Scripture and …

Diligence Has a Reward

“But without faith, it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him” Hebrews 11:6 AMPC In this fast-paced era, with people living instagrammable lives, I can assure you, the pandemic has certainly not slowed people down. What you do not see behind ‘microwave’ results is the effort that goes into it. Very few people, especially in the church, are willing to reveal the effort behind a testimony. Mind you; …

From the Universe to My Heart

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”  Psalm 19:1 The Psalmist takes us on a journey in Psalm 19 – beginning by drawing our gaze to the heavens. All of creation cries out wordlessly, unceasingly, and universally: There is a God! Look at what He has done! While creation makes a strong case for God’s existence, we need more. We see His divine glory in the universe, but we long to know His divine plan. His divine WORD provides the answers. David uses powerful words to describe the WORD in Psalm 19, verses 7-9: Perfect Trustworthy …

Talent to Serve

John 12:26 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me” Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” 1 Samuel 12:24 “But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” Jesus washed the feet of his disciples (John 13:4-17); a very unusual action on his part at that time …

Not Long Til Christmas

It’s barely more than three months until Christmas. In light of how 2020 has gone thus far, we might want to plan ahead for it just a bit. I’m not a last minute person, but I have always enjoyed the hunt for just the right gift for just the right person. Even so, I may have to switch tactics a bit this year. IF we’re not careful we will spend a lot of frustrated time comparing this Christmas to past years. But we will have more of a blessed time if we just take this year and enjoy what we …

Hole In The Roof

We went riding around for a while yesterday. Danny wanted to see where a tree had fallen on the power lines near our house the night before. He also wanted to check a couple of creeks out to see just how much flooding we had. While driving on one highway I noticed a house that was falling in. We used to know who lived in that house and I was surprised. There was a huge hole in the roof. Danny said he had heard they were preparing to burn it as practice for the fire department. The huge hold in …

Glorifying God

Do you ever get overwhelmed, wondering if you’re doing enough for God? We want to glorify God, but when does that actually occur? Is there a magic number of things we do that surpasses that “glorifying God” threshold?   Or perhaps, like me, you see the endless needs in the world – poverty, child hunger, injustice, childhood abandonment, broken marriages, depression, grief, broken hearts…. And you wonder how it is possible to bring the light of Jesus to all of these situations. Any attempts I make seem like a drop in the ocean. A few ripples but little lasting …

Cynthia talks with Karen Hitchcox about the struggles of life. Our horizons have things that seem to drift closer every day, it is how we face them and the next chapters in life that bring God glory.
