Being High Up on the Mountaintop

Have you ever just stopped and thought. “Man, I’ve been through a lot of stuff. I can’t believe I made it through all of that.” When you are in the middle, in the valley, you really don’t have time to stop and reflect.  You or at least I, am so busy trying to get out of the middle that I really don’t have time to think or look around. But when you find yourself on the other side on the mountaintop that is where the beauty lies. That is where I am tonight. I’ve been through some pretty low valleys over …

Hold on a Second

“However it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’- the things God has prepared for those who love him- these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2: 9 and 10). Read it again, take a minute and soak it in. I want you to think about something for me. These two verses make a really big claim, a promise, that if you are not looking and thinking about you will miss.  It …

Double Vision

I’m no foreigner to sleepless nights. You’ve been there. You get something on your mind and you can’t turn off the mindless thoughts. It’s human nature to think if we dwell on something and busy ourselves telling others our problems, that somehow, miraculously they’ll disappear, or at best get easier to deal with. It’s like we have double vision. In one light, we see God near and in control. But, when things don’t happen on our time clock, we get tunnel vision. We tend to look at things from a very narrow perspective, and can’t really see the big picture …

Victorious

After writing about Jesus appearing to others, Paul said He appeared to him, the least of His apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle because he persecuted the church of God. Then he wrote by the grace of God he became victorious. Do you feel like the least of God’s children? I do, but am thankful He loved me and allowed His Son to die on the old rugged cross to pay my sin debt. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son to die for my sins. So at salvation I became one of God’s adopted children. My husband and I …

My Life Since Retirement

When we were nearing retirement age, I remember telling my husband that retirement was to be more than watching television and reading the daily newspaper. Had I known the brief time he would live before his death, maybe I would  have used our time differently. But during the years from June I, 1980 until November 1983, quite a lot was achieved; however, much sorrow was experienced. My parents were experiencing declining health; so my dependent sister, who had made her home with them, came to live with our family. Then Dad died the last of November,1981, and Mother died the next April. We were having a house built, but when it was ready to buy, most banks were not making loans; however, with help of our realtor friend …

Running Everywhere?

I made a quick run to the mega mart last night after 9 pm. I’m not one to get out at night especially when it’s cold. But two things were needed and I made the offer to fetch them. First I searched for another item in case they had it. No luck. The items I did get were at opposite ends of the huge building so I ran all over the place to get them. I’m the first to admit that when I find myself in need, I often run all over the place trying to find the peace, comfort, …

He Hears

It has been one of those weeks. Sometimes I have felt as if I could hardly breathe. I have been weepy and my emotions are raw. Usually when I feel this way it is because I am tired from lack of sleep or exhausted from traveling or even tired from doing “good” things that I know are worthwhile. Sometimes I feel something else is going on. It involves the spiritual realm; I know God is up to something involving me in some way especially if I am being obedient to God’s leading. A spiritual battle is raging and I feel …

It’s All in the Details…or is it?

It’s All in the Details…or is it?     Not many people have a ton of money straight out of high school. Even with a full-time job, the pay was still very low. It always seemed like I never had money for anything. Then, the credit cards began to rack up. Finances are one of the most anxiety-inducing situations anyone will ever experience. It’s easy to get caught up in the frustration and fears of not knowing what it going to happen next. So, what does the Bible say about these scenarios and how can we feel the …

Esther: God’s Great Provision

Esther: God’s Great Provision   The theme of the book of Esther is the providence of God in the preservation of His people.  It’s interesting to note that God’s name is never mentioned in the book of Esther, but God’s hand is all over it. The heroine of this book which also bears her name has been made queen. At first glance, the book of Esther reads like a Cinderella story.  The king’s men are sent throughout the kingdom to find all the young girls and bring them to the palace. All would be given beauty treatments …

God’s Symphony

Drew was about 4 or 5 years old when this happened. Last night we had a huge storm at our house with lots of thunder and lightening and hail.  The house shook and it sounded like the windows would break.  Prior to the hail, Drew woke up crying that he was scared. God gave me the coolest picture… I said do you know what this is?  He said what?  I said this is God’s band (he doesn’t know what a symphony is).  The rain is the piano, the thunder is the drums and the lightening is the cymbals. He said… …

God’s Protection

Genesis 32:1-2 “So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s camp.” And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.” Have you ever heard the expression that God uses the natural to explain the spiritual?  If you are in our Wednesday night class you have heard it a lot.  Well, here is something that The Lord has shown me today. Yesterday, I had just read in Genesis 32 about Jacob seeing the angels and God said, You are in the presence of angels and Me all the …

At the Cross-God’s Perfect Provisions

If you are my sibling-in-Christ, then I know you had a meeting with God at the cross. With mercy, he stripped off the dirty, ugly, often tattered and worn-out life clothes, and as Psalm 103 says, he removed those rags as far as the east is from the west. At that moment, you became clean. And vulnerable. I can’t speak for you, but I know I don’t do clean well. By the end of the day, I will have evidence of everything I’ve eaten and a lot of what I’ve said, all over me. And vulnerable? When I find myself …
