Write the Word Peace

“Stand firm then… with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6: 14-15         What comes to mind when you hear the word PEACE? A throwback to the sixties: A deserted beach sunset: A majestic view from a mountain top: Maybe for you, peace isn’t a symbol or a place, but just the absence of conflict. It’s a family reunion – or a church business meeting – where we “all just get along”… making it through dinner with no one spilling their milk … or perhaps it’s as simple as a …

Write the Word Faith

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Ephesians 6: 16    We are exploring the elements of the Armor of God as we Write the Word. You can access previous journaling plans for truth, righteousness, and peace. This post brings us to the shield of faith. Measuring approximately 4.5’ tall by 2’ wide, the Roman shield would completely cover a soldier as he advanced forward. It was designed and built to link together with the shields of his brothers-in-arms, enabling them to advance together, side by side, and …

Write the Word One Another

Some of us may be too young to remember these popular 1967 lyrics from the Youngbloods: Come on people now Smile on your brother Everybody get together Try to love one another Right now*   I have no idea if the Youngbloods were followers of Christ, but the sentiment expressed in these famous words seems to capture much of the focus of the one anothers in Scripture: love and unity. Clearly, this encouragement (or commandment) in the Bible is directed to those in the body of Christ. God uses these passages to provide guidance for how we are to treat each other …

What’s That Shaking You Up?

Just before we went to bed last night, it sounded like someone had jumped heavily on our deck or slammed our car door. We all went to see what the noise was. In about 5 minutes there was another loud boom. Both sounds shook our house. It was talked about on social media and our oldest daughter began texting that they too had heard and felt it. Much concern was spoken about two dams north of us. People everywhere you felt the effects want to know what happened. After waiting to find news until late, we went to bed. We finally …

Going Deep in The Word

Today we will be discussing going deep in the Word of God. Let’s start by defining the word deep. The definition of deep is to extend far down from the surface. The opposite of deep is shallow and means to stay on the surface.  What does it mean to go deep in the Word of God?  How do we do that?  And why would we? To go deep in the Bible means that we don’t stay on the surface.  We aren’t satisfied to skim the top or stay in the shallows…but rather we want to go into the depths …

God’s Word

Yesterday two things happened to acquaintances that just floored me. One received a text meant for another person. It was rude and maligning about the person who received the text. Oh my. The other person was supposed to be on hold but it didn’t work, so they heard the diatribe about themselves over the phone line. Oh beloved, you are so special to the Lord. It might be that you’ve been through this type of situation. It could have been recently or on the playground or the party line many years ago. It still hurts. You may not have ever …

Write the Word 1

Write the Word: WORD [Scripture, Precepts, Statutes, etc.]   Do you want your children to be prosperous and successful? It’s not a trick question, but it’s not one we usually discuss in Sunday School or Bible Study. As parents, we do want our children to: Land a good job Graduate from college, or trade school, or whatever training they need, debt-free Pay their own bills Own their own home and pay off their mortgage early When we think on the topic of finances and vocation, other worthy goals might come to mind: some metrics we may associate with “prosperity and …

Write the Word 2

Psalm 119: Words on the WORD Scripture, Precepts, Statutes, etc.   {Inspiration from Psalm 119: Part 2 of 3}   It was just too difficult to choose only ten verses to pray back to God from the many wonderful ones found in Psalm 119! Here are more prayer prompts from scripture, to guide you in praying for those you love: Psalm 119: 4 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. O God, let Your Word be the first priority for my children when they need advice and counsel. Psalm 119: 30 I have chosen the way of …

Write the Word Rest

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Psalm 119: 16   Do you find delight in the Word of God? Do you want to? Will you choose to make the Psalmist’s words both your proclamation and your petition? Will you ask the Spirit of God to help you make the Word of God your daily priority? As you and I will ourselves to “not neglect the Word,” our just-do-it commitment will be transformed to delight. Our have-to will become a want-to.  As God’s Word becomes your delight, I’m convinced blessing …

Praise God for His Facts

While visiting with a friend last night I realized they are going through a rough time. The first response to this awful news was to commiserate with them. I felt the panic and pain. We discussed it. I sent prayers upward on their behalf. About halfway through the conversation God spoke to my heart. And I began to talk about God instead of the problem. Faith rose up in me and as I spoke the TRUTH over my friend she too had faith rise up in her. The talk went from wringing of hands to praising the Lord. By …

Words Are Powerful

How many of us have said words before thinking and then been like… Oops.  Words once said cannot be taken back.  Many of us do not realize how much power there is in our words.  God says: “There is death and life in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18: 21. Think about it. Do we really realize how much power there is in our words and in God’s Word?  When Jesus was praying to the Father He said ‘Sanctify them by Your Word for Your Word is truth.’ John 17: 17. King David inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote …

A Mustard Seed Faith

I love to clean. I know that’s crazy, right? Most people I know turn their noses up when it comes to cleaning. That’s alright; it’s a messy job. One day as I was cleaning I found a book with a poem written in it. Reading the poem I thought to myself, “This should have been published.” The poem was written in my mother’s journal. Mom loved to write (I guess that’s where I get my love for writing.) Since my sweet mama died 5 years ago, the words I read were extra special to me. And I would like …
