Remember when we were kids and our generation had phrases we used a lot? Right on. Groovy. Far out. Peace. Those were the best phrases! Lol I think every group of people who have had such phrases believed in them at the time. For months I have been hearing a phrase over and over again “When Jesus comes to get us”. And you know what? It’s time to believe in that phrase for our season as believers. Oh beloved, when Jesus comes to get you and me… The Lord wants us to live by that phrase. He wants us to …
Walk Out Into The New Year
On New Year’s Day morning I walked out to my car barefoot. In December. Unbelievable and yet that’s just what I did. Oh beloved, maybe you didn’t walk out to your car barefoot. But you are walking into this New Year without hesitation. Your feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. You don’t have to stop and make preparation. Even though thorns and stones are out there, you are fully covered by Christ. It’s time that God’s people walk like God’s people. Peace is your birthright. Even though you may have much you feel you should …
Don’t Lose Your Nerve
When we stepped out the door to go to church recently I was surprised that the weather was so warm, especially since I had layered up for the day. It was okay, because inside he church building it was a little chilly. But the muggy warm day was a foretelling of crazy weather. As the tornado warning sounded on both my phone and my hubby’s that afternoon, I was ready to run to the basement of our house. My hubby however was not ready to go. I texted our adult children, of course doesn’t a mother do that no matter …
Sure Enough
When I was a child if my parents said “we’ll see” then it usually actually meant probably not. It was a polite phrase for no. LOL But yesterday evening I heard the phrase “Sure Enough”. And then I remembered I saw our jonquils budding out in the flower bed. I knew that while we had that heavy snow it wouldn’t last forever and the jonquils would bloom right away. “Sure enough” they are blooming! Oh beloved, God speaks to our hearts. Sure enough the jonquils ARE blooming. The snow didn’t stop them and neither did the cancellation of jonquil and …
You’ve Been Made To Last
I still have outdoor chairs that belonged to my parents. They’ve been painted and repainted but they are still sturdy and able to be used. How old are they? At least 50 years old. I also have the folding type lawn chairs, at least the newest ones my hubby has bought. They are not so old because they weren’t made to last that long. Oh beloved, God speaks to my heart. You were made to last. This season is rough. It’s like a hurricane in many ways. It has blown us around. It has turned things upside down and crushed …
It’s Been A Rough Day
As I woke up one morning in April I was reminded of the polio outbreak of the early 50’s. In the United States, the 1952 epidemic was the worst outbreak in the nation’s history, and is credited with heightening parents’ fears of the disease. Of the 57,628 cases reported that year 3,145 died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis. I remember the fear. And I remember the sugar cubes with pink medicine that would prove to eradicate the dreaded disease forever in the US. I also remember knowing people who had contracted the disease. Oh beloved, why …
Sheet Changing Day
We’ve all found comfort in daily busy-ness. But now God is calling us to find our comfort in Him alone. Yesterday was sheet changing day. That meant the pillow cases as well. So that meant that all the pillows were in the floor without cases. When I went to put the fresh sheets on the bed I also put pillow cases on all the pillows and placed them back in their spots. I evidently got the right pillows on hubby’s side of the bed. He slept fine. But I must have picked the wrong pillows for my side. I …
Wish You Could Sleep Through It?
God wants us to know today that even though we want to sleep through it, He is wide awake and always on the throne. This morning I woke up and thought “wish I could just sleep through it”. Rain again. Today’s rain makes this the longest stretch of consecutive rain days since 1986. I truly just want to sleep through it. Oh beloved, there are other things we’d like to sleep through aren’t there? The virus situation, family problems, financial woes, uncertain outcomes. All these things make the heart faint and the body tired. But God wants us to …
Blessings In Motion
Waking up this morning to central heat is wonderful. We have a fireplace and we can use it. But modern conveniences are such a gift. Oh beloved it’s so cold outside. But we have much to be thankful for. From the heat in our homes to the cats in our driveways we are blessed. But we don’t take anything for granted do we? We wake up thankful! Thankful for God’s gifts to us. Thankful for the ability to use those gifts. Thankful even for the opportunities to work so that we can give to the Lord, pay our bills and …
Changes?
I just happen to love fall and especially November. I even love the time change. Don’t shoot me! I am a morning person so I’m thrilled to see the sunrise while I’m at home. And the sun is just right for the beautiful leaves in the afternoon on my way home. I don’t like every change that comes in life. Some changes show up right out of nowhere. You and I can prepare somewhat for seasonal changes. But other things we have no control over and no prep time. Oh beloved, Whatever change you are going through you can know …
God Gives Us Signs
The office where I work is in the same building as some federal offices. They are not open. And there are more than enough signs on the doors entering the building and their office door that you would know that. Yet yesterday I watched a man come inside the building and attempt to go in that door. The office is dark and the door would not open and again, the signs were there. But he kept trying to go in. Finally, he turned and left. I’m not sure if he ever read the signs. He looked rather perplexed. God gives …
What About That Mountain?
We went up on the mountain this past weekend. The first time my husband took me on the Talimena Scenic Drive was back in 1973 and it was on a gold Honda motorcycle. I should say attempted, because back then there were no trees lining the ride up. It was not so pleasant and finally I asked him to please turn around. We didn’t make it all the way to the lodge then. The next attempt was later and it was some easier for me. Finally, after all these years, it’s a piece of cake. We know that road like …
