Prayer for Unity

Prayer for Unity

Ephesians 4: 1-6  “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” As I prayed this morning for families, …

On Earth As It Is In Heaven

On Earth As It Is In Heaven

“May your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” [Matt [6:10]] MAY YOUR KINGDOM COME Matthew 13 contains seven parables Jesus told to describe God’s Kingdom, all based on everyday life in the first century. The one that caught my attention this week is the parable of the yeast: Jesus said, “The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A woman takes some yeast and mixes it with a bushel of flour until the whole batch of dough rises.” [Matthew [13:33], GNT] YEAST FOR THE WORLD As Christians, we’re called to be yeast for …

Faith in the Battle

Faith in the Battle

As Christians we have ways of combating the devil’s evil plans for making us miserable: We can humbly pray and ask God to let us resist the enemy. We can remember the promise God make to us that He wouldn’t put more on us than we can bear. We can put on the armor of God. “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the …

Faith in Believing

Faith in Believing

I can’t fathom how an atheist makes it through one day, much less a life time. It’s also difficult to understand how someone that believes in God but hasn’t made Jesus Lord of their life can make it through a day. I know Jesus and I struggle, but only because the devil is fighting against me. I always win with Jesus. After Jesus was crucified, He appeared to His disciples when they were meeting behind locked doors. They were filled with joy. Jesus showed them the holes in His hands and the wound in His side. One of Jesus’ disciples, …

A New Storm, Another Opportunity

A New Storm, Another Opportunity

There is a significant difference between living my life on purpose and aimlessly moving through life without direction. I chose to embrace living my life with purpose. I am committed to this primary purpose of being a disciple and a follower of Jesus Christ.  Only then do I get clarity about my purpose in God’s kingdom. God does not call all to the same choices or life paths.  However, He does call us all to follow Jesus. Our spiritual journeys are about serving a God who is good, about knowing without a shadow of doubt that through Christ’s finished …

Embrace Your Who

Embrace Your Who

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 1[39:14]a) Fat! Ugly! Not enough! Worthless! I slammed the mirror onto the countertop. Who could love someone like me? Tears welled up and spilled over onto my cheeks. Uncontrollable crying was my pitiful comfort. From my adolescent years to just about a year ago, these lies plagued me. Other people’s opinions formed my self-judgments. Comparison of my faults with their successes further ingrained these lies. Satan proudly began to laugh as he patted himself on the back for his success. Another woman discouraged … decimated. One less servant focused …

Connect with God

Connect with God

Connection is a warm word. It draws us together. It says we belong. It is relationship with love as the glue. We need connection. So does God. He Loved First Genesis 1 tells of the world that God created.  He created people in His image. Then He loved us first, despite our sins (I John [4:19]). While we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8), He gave His only Son as a blood sacrifice to pardon our sins and allow us entrance into heaven (John [3:16]). Now, He is in heaven preparing a place for us to live forever (John 14:2). …

John’s Doubt

John’s Doubt

Matt [3:17]  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” I have been reading about John the Baptist lately.  He wasn’t Baptist he just baptized people in the river and therefore got the name.  He was the cousin of Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb.  This was not a natural occurrence then only prophets had the Spirit in them or on them prior to this.  He was a prophet and was a very outspoken man of God. John knew he had a mission …

A Revelation

A Revelation

Genesis 16: 1-5 “Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw …

Believe It or Not

Believe It or Not

Limp as a ragdoll and unable to move, I sat in my recliner and planned a bicycle ride. Myasthenia gravis robbed my strength and I was barely able to walk. Yet I believed God promised me one year of Sabbath rest, my personal Jubilee. So I planned a faith ride. On July 10, after exactly one year of severe physical limitations, I straddled my road bike, clipped in my shoes and pedaled seven miles. Are you believing God for things you can accomplish with sufficient effort and discipline? Or are you believing a big God who can do the impossible? …

Mind Control

Mind Control

Alice was bored and sleepy when she followed the white rabbit through a portal and traveled to strange places. We all have our rabbit holes, though not in Wonderland. Have you ever sat down to “check Facebook” or watch TV and suddenly hours have passed? Mindless activities can waste our time and influence our mind. It all started because she was bored and sleepy. Be alert! How I believe affects how I think and how I think affects how I believe. I must be intentional about the places my mind wanders. 1 Corinthians [2:16], “But we have the mind …

The Resurrected King

The Resurrected King

God’s story doesn’t end with the death of Jesus.  Jesus changed everything.  His death, burial, resurrection and ascension mark not the end of God’s story but the continuation of His divine plan for bringing His presence back on earth. God’s presence would reside again with man in the new heaven and new earth. His presence would reside within individuals who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. 1 Corinthians [6:19] “do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” …
