Saying No

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”–Matthew 10:16 Life is not just about always agreeing on things. And you live life not by always saying “yes” all the time. Life can be lived fully by saying “no” at times. Joseph refused Potiphar’s wife’s enticement to do an impure act. When Satan told him to turn the stone into bread, Jesus indirectly said “no” to Satan. God wants you to do the same. God wants you to say “no” when it will: lead you astray You …

What We Deserve

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast.” Have you ever been in a store and seen this sign: “You break it – You buy it?” Well, here’s a true story!  My husband and I were in an antiques/flea market/consignment shop just browsing around.  My husband collects railroad memorabilia. So he was attracted to a decorative …

Wisdom

One can be intelligent but unwise. You can ace a test but unable to decide between right and wrong. Wisdom is one characteristic trait that no one can take from you. Once you have it, treasure it and thank God for it. Wisdom is the most valuable gift we could ever receive because it teaches us how to live a fruitful, honorable, and Christ-like life! Proverbs 4:7 – “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”   Dianne Petrey

Judge Not

There will always be a right way to mend a wrong. Since Adam and Eve, sin has been a part of our existence. No one can escape sin, we’re all born into it. Most sin is invisible. You may get away with telling a lie or coveting something you don’t have, but all sin is punishable. Sin is a debt and it must be paid back. That’s why we have judges and juries. Judges are appointed to courts to be the ultimate decision maker. You can’t deny that you have judged others. In your mind you may think …

God Knows What You’re Looking For

My hubby had his enlistment buddy on his mind last week. He decided he would try to find information about him if he could. He searched some free genealogy information and more. Nothing could be found. I even looked as well and could find nothing. I tried one more search, a social media site, and just put his name in there with Vietnam. Suddenly there was all the information Danny was looking for and more. Turns out while Danny was thinking about his friend last week, another high school acquaintance posted the information on their mutual classmate on his own …

Walking in the Ways of God’s Love

Are you walking in the ways of God’s love? Are you striving to follow his commands? It’s important in the last days to stay connected to Jesus and his word. As believers, we should be walking in his ways and not in our fleshly ways. We have eternity to look forward to. Don’t allow the temporary things in this world to mislead you. Fix your focus on Jesus. He can calm the storms in your life if you will allow him to. Keep pressing in towards the goal. Be patient in the trials and continue to walk in his love. …

Confidence in Christ Not Our Flesh

You know that feeling of self-confidence, when you’re being challenged to do something that you’re well experienced at? What about being confident in someone or something else? I can be confident in someone who makes a promise to me, until that promise is broken. Or, I can be hopeful that my car will start when I turn the key, but what if it doesn’t? I’ve found that there’s only one thing that I can be 100% confident of, and that’s in God Himself, and His promises. God has not only been there when I needed Him but He’s going …

Give Hope

Did you know that you can’t give something away that you don’t already possess. This is also true with hope. Encouraging others is a gift from God that I inspire others to achieve. “A Christian’s hope isn’t an escape or wishful thinking, as C.S. Lewis says, but something that a Christian is meant to do.” Can you have hope, but not faith? In God you can’t. Faith to a Christian is believing that God does what He says He will do. Hope is the forethought of that faith. I can hope that someone in my family will be saved, but …

Empty Void

We go throughout life searching to fill that empty void. You try to do everything to fill it only to realize that will never be satisfied with what the world gives you,  You will never be satisfied. We live in a world of darkness where they think evil is good and being good is evil. Growing up I never got to go out and when I did felt so out of place. I felt like I was the outcast. No friend, relationship, alcohol, or anything could fill the Void as Jesus can. John 17:6 says  “They are not …

Jesus The Way, The Truth and The Life

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6   This verse may be familiar to many of us. The phrase, “…the way and the truth and the life” may easily roll off our tongues, because we have heard it quoted many times. We may have committed it to memory if we grew up in Sunday School or Awana. We may be struck by the combination of these three descriptors: way, truth, life. These are an interesting combination. As we focus on the words individually, it prompts us to …

Lay It Aside And Rest

This morning I am reminded that although I wear glasses, I don’t keep them on at night. I don’t sleep with them. I remove them and lay them aside. God speaks to my heart. Just as I lay aside my glasses at night so that I can sleep comfortably, so too He wants me to lay aside the troubles, the questions, the concerns of the day. He wants me to sleep well at night and I can’t if I don’t lay it all down. Oh beloved, what have you been wrangling with? What are you carrying to bed with you? …
