Feeding Hungry

I just wanted to share a lesson of mine with anyone who might enjoy or relate to it.  It sure was an eye opener for me.  Have you ever been really irritated about a situation and ended up taking it out (justly or not) on someone else?  Well that was my week last week.  I was in a mood and everything anyone did would set me on edge.  So as I am praying my morning prayers the Lord showed me Ephesians 6: 12  “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers …

Returning to Egypt

As I was praying about what my lesson for tonight would be, I read in Exodus about the children of Israel and their constant proclaiming to love and obey God then immediately going out of God’s will once things got tough.  How like me. The children of Israel had been in the wilderness a little while.  They had manna and quail, God had miraculously delivered them from Egyptian slavery, and the hands of Amalek and provided for their every need. About this time Moses was called up on the mountain to speak with God and get His instructions for living …

A Mountain Out of a Mole Hill

I wanted to share a big lesson that I learned yesterday and that carried over to today.  Have you ever had something come up that was really nothing but that if you thought about it long enough you could make a mountain out of a molehill?  Well that happened to me yesterday.  Something very small and insignificant happened that really just got under my skin. The more I thought about it the madder I got.  As I was praying for God to fix the other person or show me how to bring it up to fix the other person He …

Hear and Obey

I received a major lesson from my child last night and this morning. Last night the kids had a wet night at church and of course I didn’t read that in the bulletin so Drew had on regular clothes and no towel.  He slid down the big water slide anyway which was fine, however,  when my class was over, I told him it was time to go. “One more time” he said. “Ok” I said and he slide down the slide one more time and got back in line. I said, “Come on, no more.” at least five more times …

More Than You Can Bear

How many times have you heard God won’t give you more than you can handle.  Well, I am here to tell you that it is not true.  God does allow things we can’t handle and He does it for a good purpose.  If we never had anything we couldn’t handle we would not need Him!! He does promise  “There has no temptation taken you but that which is common to man but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what you are able but will make a way of escape so that you can bear …

Attitude of Heart

How many of us have made snap judgements?  Whenever you see someone on the side of the road with a sign and you think… I hope they don’t come up to me I don’t want to give them money because I don’t know what they will use it for.  Or you judge someone by what they have or don’t have or the way they look? I have done that more times than I can count.  I feel like sometimes we get so comfortable in our churches that we don’t want to have our apple cart upset and therefore don’t reach …

I Never Knew You

Matthew 7: 21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’  And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” I called up someone the other night whom I have never called and only see occasionally.  This was our …

Anger

I am learning an ongoing lesson.  Have you ever been really angry at someone for good reasons and then God said don’t?  The last couple of days I have been angry and felt completely justified in my anger but this morning-God said: I was not to be provoked. 1 Cor 13: 4-7 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;  does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, …

Words Are Powerful

How many of us have said words before thinking and then been like… Oops.  Words once said cannot be taken back.  Many of us do not realize how much power there is in our words.  God says: “There is death and life in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18: 21. Think about it. Do we really realize how much power there is in our words and in God’s Word?  When Jesus was praying to the Father He said ‘Sanctify them by Your Word for Your Word is truth.’ John 17: 17. King David inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote …

Lessons From My Cat

I just love it when God uses something natural to teach me a spiritual lesson.  That is what He did this morning. We live in the country surrounded by a pasture and woods on 3 sides.  So inevitably there have been a few fury “friends” come up to my house that were most unwelcome in my book. After the first fury “friend” was found inside I took matters in my own hands.  I got a cat.  A beautiful calico cat aptly named …. Calli.   She was a inside cat for years but my cat is a hunter and she would …

God’s Symphony

Drew was about 4 or 5 years old when this happened. Last night we had a huge storm at our house with lots of thunder and lightening and hail.  The house shook and it sounded like the windows would break.  Prior to the hail, Drew woke up crying that he was scared. God gave me the coolest picture… I said do you know what this is?  He said what?  I said this is God’s band (he doesn’t know what a symphony is).  The rain is the piano, the thunder is the drums and the lightening is the cymbals. He said… …

Who Are You Talking To?

Job 38: 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.” I got a big aha moment about 4:30 am one morning… I had a situation wake me up that I proceeded to pray and tell God how to fix it!!! Imagine how presumptuous that was!!!  But nevertheless He waited until I had carefully laid out my plan and then said something that I say to Drew all the time. “Remember,  Who you are talking to… in essence Who is the Parent?” “Who is the One who knows the most about …
