Leadership

Leadership is defined as ‘the action of leading a group of people or an organization.’ It takes skill, patience and organization to be a leader. Leadership in God’s eyes is more than gauging which way the wind will blow. It’s submitting your Will to God’s plan. If you plan to lead others to Christ, follow God’s plan. Let Him use you, then get out of the way. Philippians 2:3-4 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests …

Godly Leaders

Scripture: Exodus 5: 21 “May the Lord look upon you and judge you. You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have placed a sword in their hands to kill us.” Moses was leading the Israelites and interceded for them: He asked God why He had brought so much trouble on His people: for ever since he went to Pharaoh and spoke in God’s behalf, Pharaoh has brought trouble on his people and God has not rescued them. Many times when God’s people are serving Him, they do not understand when God continues to let them suffer. …

Finding Joy

It was in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas, Ft Bliss, that I first met Judy. Perhaps it was the heat, the lack of any color beyond melted butter and toasted cacti, or the distance to the nearest lake that masked the joy of the adventure, but the desert brought out the worst in me. I fell victim to a depleted spirit as we left the lush landscape of Arkansas and the closeness of family for our first duty station at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. With deployment looming and the day-to-day difficulties of being a mom with three …

The Moses Model

As I reflect on my life and the people who have impacted it the most, I’ve realized I am always encouraged by the lifestyle of a leader. Those with leadership capabilities have characteristics such as charisma, knowledge and, most importantly, they are the voice of the people. Leaders are visionaries, able to see the big picture while allowing the real experts around them to execute it. Leaders understand that they must be able to convey their insight and ideas in a way that would make anyone believe in its usefulness. Leaders are always on purpose, fulfilling a God-given calling on …

Hopeless to Whole

On January 17, 2014, life was jolted into a warp speed spiral out of control. Things had been bad before, but not like this. After years of exhausting relationships and funds there was no where left to turn. The friend I was staying with could no longer give me a place to stay so I was homeless. I was at the end of my rope and didn’t want any part of this life here on earth anymore. With the heavily persuasive opinion of a long-time friend I admitted myself to a mental hospital. I arrived with the previous diagnosis …

Who is Your Neighbor?

Christ rarely answered a question simply. When he was asked he would answer with a question or a story. Often questions were asked to discover the minimum requirement or to look good in the eyes of those who heard. Jesus never let the asker slide. He’s answers pushed the boundaries, left hearers speechless, and infuriated leaders by putting the burden on them. One day he was asked a simple question by a religious leader, “who is my neighbor.” A simple question, a simple response. Right? Looking at Luke 10: 25, we see the question that preceded “who is my neighbor” …
